Two varsity basketball players from the University of Maryland will run a basketball clinic for area youth as part of the York County Community Against Racism’s annual multicultural picnic this Saturday, July 22.
The event will be held at noon at the Martin Luther King Park at the intersection of South Penn Street and the Codorus Creek in the city.
Taking part in the clinic will be Terrapins James Gist, whose family recently moved to York County, and Crystal Langhorne, who was the starting center on Maryland’s national championship team earlier this year.
Gist and Langhorne will run a clinic for kids under the age of 18. It will include a warm-up drill, a “hot shot competition and a skills demonstration. They will also speak about self-discipline, staying in school, academic achievement, community service and remaining drug and alcohol free.
Sign-ups for the “hot shots competition will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon. All participants will receive a free T-shirt.
The basketball clinic is just one of the events at the multicultural picnic, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and will include family entertainment, games, free hot dogs and drinks.
