There is still much to learn and much news that will emerge with regard to today's Manhattan plane crash that apparently took the life of Cory Lidle, who pitched for the Phillies and Yankees this season.

In the meantime, here are some links to past and current coverage of Lidle, some of which seems sadly ironic, in light of current events:

1. In this Feb. 16, 2006, story in the Bucks County Courier Times, Lidle talks about his love of flying and how he simply doesn't think it's a dangerous hobby. When Lidle, who was a Phillie at the time of this article, is reminded that reminded that New York Yankees catcher Thurman Munson died piloting a small plane in 1979, he replies, with a smile, "Who?"

2. In this Sept. 8, 2006, feature story in The New York Times, Lidle talk again about this aviation hobby and we got to see a photo of his plane. "Really, anyone can learn how to fly," Lidle says. "If you can drive a bus, you can fly an airplane."

3. Legacy.com has already created a guest book where people can leave their condolences for Lidle's family.

4. Lidle's death has cast a pall on the sports world, writes Sporting News blogger Kara Yorio.

5. The tragedy puts things in perspective for the remaining teams in the baseball playoffs, writes Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
