Some background and trivia on the York Revolution’s 2007 coaching staff:

Chris Hoiles (Manager): Was 16th in American League MVP balloting in 1993. Hit two grand slams in one game in 1998. Hit walk-off grand slam to give Orioles a 14-13 win over Seattle at Camden Yards on May 17, 1996.

Tippy Martinez (Pitching Coach): Had a career record of 55-42, 115 saves and an ERA of 3.45. Had two saves in Orioles’ World Series victory over Philadelphia in 1983. Once picked off three baserunners in the same inning. Was an All-Star in 1983.

Ryan Minor (Hitters, Infielders): Replaced Cal Ripken Jr. in the Orioles’ lineup the day Ripken ended his consecutive games streak in September 1998. Drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1996 NBA draft (the same year the 76ers selected Allen Iverson) but did not play in the NBA.

Al Bumbry (Baserunners, Outfielders): American League Rookie of the Year in 1973, when he batted .337 in 110 games with the Orioles. Best season was probably 1980, when he batted .318 with 44 stolen bases and scored 118 runs. He finished 13th in the MVP balloting that year and was selected for his lone All-Star Game.
