Scenes leading up to the Outback Bowl...

Star receiver Derrick Williams walked away from the concession stand with a roasted turkey leg in one hand and a giant pickle in the other.

And he walked right in line for one of the biggest, baddest roller coasters around.

SheiKra happens to be billed as “North America’s only dive coaster.

Two hundred feet high. A 90-degree vertical dive. A 70-mph rush.

There’s even a four-second pause at the top of that 200-foot climb, just before that 90-degree drop.

A Penn State receiver, a turkey leg, a giant pickle and a record-breaking Busch Gardens roller coaster. On a Thursday afternoon after a grueling football practice.

Some combination, huh?

“No problem, Williams said, as he munched away on his food as he got in line.

“No way, said teammate and defensive end Josh Gaines, looking on in astonishment.

The Nittany Lions have been in the Tampa area since Dec. 23, preparing to face Tennessee in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day.

But it wasn’t until a Thursday amusement park trip that the players really got a chance to let loose a bit on a team outing. To sightsee. Take in a tourist attraction.

Or get as much good-natured motion sickness as they could handle. (Fortunately, Williams had an 80-minute wait in line to settle his stomach).

Not everyone, though, was up to try one of Busch Gardens’ eight coasters.

Gaines and a bunch of other teammates seemed content to gawk and take snapshots of the oversized alligators sunning themselves.

And eat.

“I’m just trying to find a short line, Gaines said as he looked over the concession options.

He finally did and came away with a turkey drumstick, too — but without the roller coaster ride.
