The Nittany Lions already have plenty of small, quick, big-play receivers.
On Thursday they got a verbal commitment from a different type of pass-catcher — 6-foot-5, 180-pound Derek Moye of Rochester, Pa.
He is the 19th member and only receiver in this recruiting class that expects to be finalized by Feb. 7, national letter of intent day.
Moye considered offers from Boston College and West Virginia, but he apparently chose the Lions over Pittsburgh at the end. Most national recruiting services rank him as a three-star prospect (out of five).
“He’s got potential, but he’s not a knockout guy yet, said Tom Lemming, a national recruiting expert based near Chicago. “He’s big, he’s got good hands and can run. He should be more dominant right now, but what you recruit this late (in the season) is potential.
Moye is thin and figures to redshirt next season to build bulk in the weight room.
He was named to the Big 33 team and also earned first team all-state honors on the Class A level.
The Lions are still awaiting decisions of three high school prospects — Arkansas tailback Broderick Green, Virginia Beach defensive end Chimaeze Okoli and North Carolina offensive lineman Desmond Roberts.
