To me, one of the confounding things about NASCAR was the points system.
For years points were awarded for number of laps led and several other things, with a surprisingly low amount of points awarded for actually winning a race.
The chase for the Nextel Cup was a great start, but in 2006 Kasey Kahne led the series with five wins and barely made the postseason chase.
This made no sense, but at least on Monday the cicuit announced that its new point system will be based more on victories.
For example, with all of those victories under the new system Kahne would have held the top spot heading in the playoff system, not the 10th and final spot.
And that is a good thing. After all, isn’t that what the drivers race for anyway — to win.
