Finishing off the deal

The Revolution completed a three-way trade late Wednesday night, acquiring the rights to right-handed pitcher Scott Sobkowiak from Lancaster.

Sobkowiak was notified of the deal after the Revs defeated the Barnstormers.

Earlier in the day the Revs sent infielder Victor Gutierrez to Newark in exchange for reliever Barry Armitage (1-0, 4.38 ERA). Armitage was then traded to Lancaster for the rights to Sobkowiak (0-3, 7.20). It's not clear if Sobkowiak will report to York.

The deal is a head-scratcher.

York needs to shake up its roster. York has won only 16 games, and some players have noted that the attitudes of some players need to change.

But the deal sounds a little strange. York traded a solid but still injured (sore hamstring) Gutierrez for a decent reliever in Armitage, only to turn around and ship Armitage to Lancaster for Sobkowiak -- who is struggling.

It sounds like York is helping Lancaster.

Even if it's not the case, this is the perception. And that's what happens when an ownership group owns more than one franchise in a league.
