Here is a news release sent to me by Master Mark Jovich:

The Central Pennsylvania Martial Arts Academy, a York County martial arts school, received “Outstanding Team Honors” Friday, June 22 while competing in the Empire State Warrior Challenge.

The Empire State Warrior Challenge was a 16-bout Mixed Martial Arts event. Jovich had six local competitors there, all making their MMA debuts.

Bout 1 (Fly Weight)

Brent Kroh, a junior at Dallastown Area High School, started the evening by accepting a bout with an opponent 18 lbs. heavier. After a valiant effort and winning the first two rounds, Najee Stewart of East Durham, NY submitted Brent in the 3rd round with a guillotine choke.

Bout 2 (Welter Weight)

Dean Bortner, a senior at Dallastown Area High School won a decision over Thomas Bushnell of East Durham, NY. After two close rounds Dean dominated the 3rd round and took the decision. He won the first of three “Outstanding Fighters of the Night Awards."

Bout 6 (Welter Weight)

Justin Scott, a recent graduate of Dallastown Area High School, was pitted against James Fallas of Extreme Martial Arts. Justin won a unanimous decision over pervious undefeated (3-0) and defending Empire State Warrior Champion, Fallas. Scott won all three rounds to include a second round knock down with a roundhouse kick to the head. Best kick of the night.

Bout 8 (Heavy Weight)

Drue Moore of Red Lion, Pennsylvania lost by submission. After controlling majority of the first round Drue was caught in an inverted arm bar and submitted at 1:48 of the 1st round.

Bout 10 (Super Heavy Weight)

Adam Hostetter of Manchester, PA, versed Steve Edwards of Lion Kill Jiu Jitsu . After a close 1st round Adam knocked out the Lion Kill fighter with a vicious left hook at 1:15 of the 2nd round. Best knockout of the night.

Main Event
Matthew Macaluso of Red Lion, PA accepted the bout with the Tae Kwon Do 2006 US National Champion Master Ronald McVeilly of Tigon Style Martial Arts. After the original fighter dropped from the fight card Macaulso accepted the fight with only five days notice. Macaulso won a second round victory over McVeilly with an arm bar submission at 1:32 of the second round. Macaluso won the second “Outstanding Fighter of the Night Award” for the Central Pennsylvania Martial Arts Academy by submitting an opponent 34 lbs. heavier in his MMA debut.

Congrats to all of Master Jovich's fighters. I hope to have results on how Steve Bentz's fighters -- Ryan Krauss, Ty Krebs, and Chris Adler -- did at the event.

What happened to the fact that one of your guys wa STRIPPED of their title for CHEATING?????

O and maybe you missed the fact that you guys are BANNED from ever coming back their for the horrible actions of your team members...getting drunk and punching out a ref. , having brawls in the parking lot... All that is TOTALLY Honorable!

I take this comment as a personal attack on MY Traditional Martial Arts SCHOOL. I am an assistant instuctor at the Central PA Martial Arts and train/interact with the fighters on a regular basis. I was involved in preparing the fighters for the event and attended personally with our Instructor Master Mark Jovich. These individuals are of the highest caliber in how they behave both inside and outside of the ring. There is NO FACTUAL Basis to the accusations above. Fact #1: NO Fighter from our school got druck or physically attacked a ref. Fact #2: No fighter was stripped of their title for any reason. Fact #3: No fighter from our school got into a fight outside the ring. And last but not least, OUR SCHOOL WERE PERSONALLY INVITED BACK BY THE PROMOTER. IF you need evidence of the FACTS you are welcome to call the promoter PASTOR JAMES Mullooly. I really wish that the person making the accusations had the nerve to come forward. Posting anonomous comments are for those afraid of being exposed as the LIAR that they are. Anyone else that doubts the respect and integrity of our school, its students or instructors, is welcome to come visit us and see for yourself.

I was at this fight and none of this stuff ever happend . I dont know where this person got his informatin but it is not right.I was there 2 days an did not see any of these fighters have any problems w/ drinking or hitting a ref.Their were some problems w/ people that came up to the fight,BUT THEIR WHERE FANS AND NOT FIGHTERS. How do i know all of this/ Because my son was the 2nd fight of the night.
All the fighter that where there should not be held accountable for actions of others TONY.A FATHER OF 1 OF THESE FIGHTERS

I WISH THIS GUY WOULD GIVE HIS NAME AND HIS FACTS AND NOT HERE SAY THEIR WAS NO CHEATTING AND NO FIGHTING OF A REF.EVERYTHING ANTHONY ESSIS STATES IS A FACT

My name is Brent Kroh.I am sixteen years old,and have never had drink in my life.I train to hard in high school wrestling and the martial arts to allow any substance to effect my performance. Both my parents and martial arts instructor (who also is my high school Marine Corps JROTC teacher) would not allow me to partake in this type of behavior.I fought my heart out for 3 rounds and lost to a better man that night.I don't appreciate these types comments about my fellow students and instructors.I feel blessed to have these role models in my life to help shape my character. Also I cannot get into parking lot fights I weigh 118 lbs.Semper Fi Brent

I take this comment about our group of fighter's very upsetting. I am a mom of one of the fighter's and I was at the event for all the fights.I did not see or hear of any cheating or fighting in or outside of the ring. I am very proud of my son and of all the fighters.

Let me set the record straight. The 6 martial artist are Christian men with a strong belief in God.

The are men of the upmost character and integrity. They only understand traditional martial arts and the respect it instills in students.

We don't run a fight club but a traditional dojo.

The facts are they all fought extremely tough opponents. We were blessed to win 4 out of 6 fights. We had 2 "Outstanding Fighters of the Night Awards", The dojo was recognized with and "Outstanding School Award. And most importantly our fighters all showed the highest amount of respect for their opponents.

There was no brawls in the parking lot. These fighters never even had a drink. Why? They don't drink.Three of them are 18 years old or less. And I personally was with all 6 of them til they went to sleep. No fighter was stripped of his title. How do you cheat in MMA? I personal spoke with both referees and thanked them for a job well done.

Last but not least we are going back.

I can only pray one of our martial artist match up with this spine less coward that has no honor or intergrity.

While the comments hurt about our school I have the biggest problem with them attacking our students who showed the crowd what being a martial artist is all about.

They were the only martial artists to bow in and out and shake the hands of not only the fighters but all their instructors/coaches.
These comments are unfair to these 6 men of character.

The advice I would give Mr. "A" is visit a traditional Okinawan Dojo so he can learn Humilty,Respect and Honor.

Also maybe some martial arts skill.

Sensei Mark

I am also an assistant instructor at CPMAA and the comments are baseless. In fact, I know Sensei Mark Jovich and our school have always maintained the highest level of integrity. I have personally fought in over 15 tournaments as amember of the school and have NEVER been involved in any incident that would be seen as dishonorable. It's unfortunate to see losers lash out at winners rather than seek counsel or offer congrats. SF. lindsay

Much like the other comments, I also attended the fight. Not knowing what to expect when the matches began, I fell in love with the sport and sportsmanship of all of the fighters. My cousin and numerous friends participated in this event and are all apart of the Central PA Martial Arts school. I take this as a personal attack to my cousin, friends, and even to myself. Shame on you that you can't write your name and back up your own words. You truely signify the democratic way of life.

When I first read "Mr. Anonymous'" comment I really thought he had made a bad mistake by mis-posting his comment and confusing us, i.e. the Central PA Martial Arts Academy, with someone else and a different series of events. However, when you think about it, his accusations are so easily proved false that it is incredulous that any thinking person would make them about anybody.

I have been with Master Mark Jovich and the CPMA from its beginning and our reputation speaks for itself. Honor, integrity, respect and humility are the core values of our traditional Okinawan Kenpo dojo; and when you combine those virtues with rigorous, sound training, the end results are true martial artists.

We will strive very hard to bring those qualities to the burgeoning sport of MMA whenever and wherever we compete. Talk is cheap but actions roar. May our actions continue to roar with unquestionable character.

Sensei Mark H.

My name is Justin Scott. I train with Master Mark Jovich at his dojo on the CPMAA team. I for one know for a fact that nobody had cheated and no one has gotten into any street fights. Why? Because we are trained to have integrity and respect for other people, Sensei Jovich does not allow any such behavior. We came to this event to fight in a sanctioned event, that is it. We have a tremendous amount of respect for our fellow fighters, instructors and also our opponents. We shake hands with them win or loss because it is the right thing to do. Whoever wrote these comments is a coward and needs to come to our dojo to see the truth for themselves.

Well now this is great. I see everyone puts in his or her two cents. Now I don’t know if “a” is true, or maybe this is all a stunt to get your name talked about. I don’t know, I don’t care. But shut up. You talk about honor and respect and integrity and I see some of you are calling this person out. That is crap. I’m not here to talk for “a” but why call someone out if you have those thing? Now we did not tell this reporter about us yet b/c… well I don’t want to be in the same article as you. After having someone walk into my room at 3 or 4 in the morning drunk off his ass, and underage, realizing that it’s not his room, wearing your shirt and is with your team (I know he is, from seeing him with you), fan or fighter, it doesn’t matter. That is crap. And when one of my co-fighters was talking to some of other teammates of yours, he even asked there age and they were NOT 21 and they were drunk! (I know this is true b/c they were right out side my door) Now I don’t drink, so you can’t say I did crap, b/c I wasn’t down at the pub at all. all you can say is I had respect for my self and my team. You say you watched over your people, I’m sorry but I just caught you in a lie, and maybe “a” did too. I don’t know if they did or not but grow up. You know you will not hear back from this person, so stop crying about it. Now I am not afraid of anyone, so you can see who I am. Talk all the crap you want, but that has no integrity, honor or respect. It only shows the truth!

Here's a suggestion for all our CPMAA members:

some of us responded to these verbal attacks with heartfelt emotion. It was a natural thing when you know the accusations are false. But now is the time to ignore any more of these blog posts. In my opinion they are not worthy of any further response.

As I said previously, our reputation (built up over several years) speaks for itself. Let's just quietly go about our business and let our actions do the talking.

Sensei Mark Henry

Amen Brother

We would just like to say congratulations to all the fighters from our school -- we are proud of YOU!!!

My name is Rachel Metzger and I have the privelege of training under Master Mark Jovich for many years.I know for a fact from being around him and his students that they are very respectful and honorable. What anonymous has said is a complete lie.I was invited there along with my parents by CPMAA to watch and enjoy the fights.I was there before, during and after the fights and never were any of Master Jovich's fighters "stripped of their title for cheating".No ref was ever punched out or brawl started in the parking lot.Being with the fighters for the whole evening I saw no fighters that were drunk either from CPMAA team or any other team. And last but not least the school was personally asked to come back.Anonymous, whoever you are I don't know what you have to gain by the comments you made.Obviously honesty is not one of your virtues. P.S. When you tell the truth there is no reason to hide your identity. My name is Rachel Metzger and I am not anonymous.I have a name and also a video of the fights of that evening if you are interested.

This is for Justin Scott or Rachel. Justin - Congrats on the win. I'm actually fighting the same guy (James Fallas) at the "Cage of Vengeance" show in Egg Harbor, NJ on July 21. I'd appreciate getting to see that fight. Please email me at bww@rlasd.k12.pa.us
Also wouldn't mind setting up some workouts or checking out the CPMAA. Where is this?

Rachel Metzger,
I would love a copy of the event if you have it on tape, please contact me @ zoobsmoose@aol.com. thank you!

I apologize to Master McEvilly for the improper spelling of his name and his official weight at weigh in was 202.
