When it comes to boxes, I thought I’d heard it all when Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg did a little video on Saturday Night Live singing “put your junk in that box.”
Anyway, now we’ve got MMA in a box.
Seriously.
Daniel “Tiger“ Schulmann, according to his Web site, led his organization to become the number one grappling school in North America in 2004 and was inducted into the NAGA Grappling Hall of Fame as a Founding member in 2005.
His company, Tigear, is distributing something called Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts In A Box Kit.
A news release calls it “a fun, interactive kit that will keep the kids off the couch this summer.”
Here’s what comes in the box: A DVD taught by Schulmann “featuring boys and girls having a fun martial arts workout,” plus a pair of boxing gloves, punching pads, and a kicking shield.
The drills, which are the same ones taught in Schulmann’s dojo, are proven — according to a Hofstra University study — to decrease Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, according to the news release.
On one hand, it seems as though we’ve got somebody jumping on the MMA bandwagon. I mean, should he really call it MMA? Is he going to have left high kicks to the head, anaconda chokes and power-bomb slams?
On the other hand, you’ve got to hand it to the guy for his shrewd business sense. He’s not the first guy to realize there’s bucks to be made on the MMA craze.
And, if it really does help kids with ADHD, so much the better.
I think I’m going to buy it — just for the box.
