Honors for area athletes

Here's a quick update on some collegiate honors for some York County athletes:

Shelly Lobach

-- Shelly Lobach (South Western), a freshman at Lebanon Valley College, earned Rookie of the Year honors in the Commonwealth Conference. Lobach scored 10 goals and added eight assists to help LVC to a 19-0 record and a No. 2 ranking in Division III.

Margaret Prebula

-- Also at LVC, junior volleyball player Margaret Prebula (Northeastern) was named to the All-Commonwealth Conference first team. Senior Jill Miller (Delone Catholic) earned second team honors.

Prebula led the team with 379 kills as she hit .231 for the season. Last week, she became the fifth LVC player to break the 1,000 career kills mark, and now has 1,016 in three seasons. Prebula also led the Dutchmen with 54 blocks.

Miller, a libero, led the team with 395 digs and tied for the team lead with 43 aces with just 24 errors.

-- Also landing on the Commonwealth Conference second team for volleyball was Widener senior Becky Rohrbaugh (Susquehannock), who was one of the league’s top setters with 10.02 assists per game. She notched 23 matches with at least 30 assists and posted 12 double-doubles, including eight in Widener’s last 13 matches. Rohrbaugh is also one of two on the Widener team who sport a 4.0 GPA.

Lauren Botterbusch

-- Ithaca College junior swimmer Lauren Botterbusch (Dallastown) won a pair of events recently to lead the Bombers over Rensselaer, 128-115, in the season opener. Botterbusch recorded a winning time of 2:31.77 in the 200-yard breaststroke and was also a part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team.

Kelsi Hoffman

-- Shippensburg junior Kelsi Hoffman (West York) totaled 16 digs to help the Lady Raiders to their third straight PSAC-East women's volleyball crown with a 3-1 victory over Kutztown recently. Hoffman now has 464 digs this season, the seventh-highest single-season total in school history.
