Dont bears have to be a certain size to kill them??? These look awful small. I dont hunt, but i fish, and my fish must be bigger than these Bears to keep them!!!!!

As a fellow hunter I'm appalled that you and your buddies would even shoot bears of their size. Granted they are legal,but at what point does your common sense that over. The Pa Game Comm. classifys bear as "big game". Now really, do your bears look like "big game"?

My Lab weighed more than twice that. Being a hunter I would never shoot a bear that size. Cannot even call it a bear. They're only cubs.

I can't believe these people would be proud of shooting game that size. At that size and age, that bear, no matter how "rare and exotic" it might be is not old or big enough to be shot! Not to mention that its a trophy kill! Those guys need to seriously examine their conscious and why they would kill something that is defenseless and not for a utilitarian purpose - like eating.

I love hunting, I would love to take a bear, yeah that's right a BEAR, not a cub. You have to be a cold hearted SOB to kill a cub let alone 3 cubs. We as Pennsylvanians need to do something about this, there needs to be a size requirement on bears!!

This is NOT hunting. There is no way that all 4 of those bears could have been a separate unrelated incident and hunt in itself. This is absolute crap.

As a long time PA hunter I was sickened after seeing those three idiots posing with those cubs. What joy and appreciation you'll have in the years to come reflecting on those cubs you removed from the PA woods, yeah right! Hope you're proud, I sure would not be. I've circulated those pictures all around my office with my comments and received nothing but 100% positive comments back that those three are nothing but, well I can't type those words here!

Why couldn't you 'hunters' allow those CUBS to live until they were mature? I hope the PGC looks into this because I have to believe there is something wrong with this 'harvest'. I like to see a good SPORTING KILL as much as anyone, but this is looks like someone was shooting fish in a barrel.

I am extremely disappointed at the total disregard for life of an animal because some guy with a gun thinks he is a man if he shoots a bear. I am a hunter and I can not believe that these guys would shoot these baby bears. The Pennsylvania game commission needs to put some restrictions on bears and do an investigation into this slaughter, I mean hunt. I own dogs that are double the weight of the cub and looks like there are three cubs and a sow. I as a PA hunter will be writing a letter to the PGC to do an investigation and to move towards better bear management. I am convinced that most gun hunters in this state would still shoot a spike just to say they shot a buck, looks like all that these guys are worried about is bragging at the bar that they are big men and shot bears. Native Americans call white animals Spirit animals and I am sure that today every ones spirit is broken with this news.

I am 61 and have hunted in PA all of my life. I have never seen anything as disgusting as this and am ashamed of being called a "hunter" along with these butchers. I only hope these "boys" live long enough to regret their horrible actions! It sure provides tons of ammunition to the anti-hunting fokes. Please, PA Game Commission, do something to prevent this from happening again.

As sickening as this killing of baby cub bears are I would like to know why people aren't this concerned about human babies that get killed everyday through abortion. That is even more sickening than this. There should be a law against killing animals that are just babies. And the Row v. Wade should be thrown out.

From the pictures, you all appear proud for some reason, although I can't fathom what. It can't be your skills, or ethics, or morality of hunting.
Maybe you were just hunting for suitable pocketbooks for little girls.... its what you got, what you shot, and there should be no pride associated with your actions.

This is crazy! You big game hunters obviously shot the mother and then the cubs. I've heard the cubs won't leave the mother and actually make crying sounds after the mother is dead.How can any hunter be proud of this, which you are to have your pictures displayed. After killing the mother these guys pprobably had little choice but to shoot these cubs. They mostlikely stayed with the mother after she had been shot. The three cubs probably would not have survived as orphaned yearlings any way. What these gentlemen did may not have been ethical but they probably had little choice. The poor judgement they showed in shooting a mother with cubs was their real mistake. These gentlemen appear to all be young and I am sure this experience will effect them in some way. Lets not crucify these guys they did not break the the law and we all have to live with things we have done.

I have shot many huge buck including 160 plus b&c bucks the last two years in a row. My goal now is to harvest an adult bear. I have vowed to myself I will not shoot a mother with cubs. The problem with shooting a mother that has cubs is after the mother is shot, the cubs either climb a tree nearby or they huddle with the dead sow. This is a real shame. I sure would not want to be known for killing a sow and all three of her cubs and one was an albino which makes it even more terrible. I will however get my trophy bear one day even if I must let 10 sows with cubs walk by. Looking forward to 2008.

I can't add to the list of names these guys have been called; but I'm also outraged, disgusted and saddened. Saddened for the bears and by the fact that these guys just don't get it. I am an avid bear hunter I have harvested 7 bears in PA.I was not disgusted by the shooting of such small bears.I was disgusted to the point of being sick just knowing how these bears were shot.It is impossible for 4 hunters to go hunting and all harvest a bear.I hope somebody admits that when they shot the adult female that the cubs went up a tree. I would probaly say the radios were busy as the hunter called all his friends to come to the tree with the three cubs in them. Is this a great day I say no.The Game Commision should have demanded to see the kill site. Those of you trying to justify the massacre of this bear family are not simply poor excuses for hunters...you are poor excuses for human beings. Were you trying to shoot a matching set of toilet seat covers? There is so much misery, pain, and suffering in this world, how can you justify killing such a rare and beautiful gift? It is people like you, cub-killers, that are the epitomy of the decline of our society. You may have absolutely no sense of guilt over what you have done now...but just wait. When you are 80 years old, sitting in your rocking chair, I hope you remember how your actions created so much heartbreak and disgust. My daughter cried when she saw your "trophy" photo. Jesus ****'n christ...how much time do you people spend looking for albino bear that you're so upset over this? Obviously, everyone who is posting made pilgrimiges to the area where it was shot to pay homage to the fallen bear. And obviously, in doing this, you've also made donations to societies and government agencies that support the research and sustainability of the black bear,namely your local state wildlife management division.
Did everyone here know it even existed to begin with? Guessing not. So, someone shot a bear that nobody knew was there to begin with, but now all of a sudden, you feel robbed. If only we could have saved it from the harsh wooded environment and put it behind a safe glass wall where you could pay $15 to see it and have your kids feed it food pellets dispensed from a gumball machine...all so the bear wouldn't get shot during BEAR season.

Obviously, they weren't there because they would have rescued the disney fantasy from it's demise, but I'm guessing this whole scenario in fact is NOT what happened because in Pennsylvania they hunt by driving. Bears scatter during drives. It's really not the whole "bambi's mom got shot" disney movie climactic ending scenario.

My name is John Knouse, and I am the reporter who was there the day that these gentlemen if you would call them that brought these bears into the check station. I agree with you in some ways, but also disagree on some points. The way you phrased things in your letter was not being very Christ-like or Godly either, but give me a chance to introduce a few ideas to you. There should in fact be, and in some cases hunting is needed to preserve human life. Sometimes outside of the cities where food banks are not common and there is not a soup kitchen around the corner, poor families feed themselves with their harvests. The day I wrote that article was because of occupation not belief, and because the albino bear was such a rare thing, as a reporter I felt it necessary to publicize. Now in the united states burger joints and different fast foods are more available and hunting has taken a dive as far as survival needs, but you need to understand that in some cases like a mentioned above it is truly a survival tactic. I myself have hunted and harvested animals, simply for the purpose of donating to the local food bank that most often has shortages. So please be kind to all, even when they make mistakes, and remember you set an example for others with kind words.

Remember that the next time you accidentally shoot a button buck, a jake turkey a small yearling rabbit, whatever it is that you hunt, it is bound to happen. Different hunters have different morals, but the one thing you do not want to do as someone mentioned above, is to not fight amongst your fellow hunters, because you are then playing into the hands of the anti-hunting groups.

I was there and saw that bear, and it was indeed an albino, and it's eyes were not pink anymore because of it being dead, but they clearly had lack of pigment in it's eyes and skin. everyone knows everything though, even without being there.

Where is your moral? Killing baby bears is wrong, but what gives you the right to kill grown up bears, really? Are you some kind of gods who can decide if an animal can live or not? As quite a few have pointed out, they are barely even bears, they are cubs... and shooting them like that is uncalled for and cruel. If you want to be proud, then why don't you make it actually fair for them, and take on the bear only when necessary with only your owm bare hands... because when you stand far away and shoot at them like that, i wouldn't call that remotly brave or something to be proud of. I'm sorry, but it has trully saddened me that people would do this with no remorse.

what these men did was not unethical. im a avid hunter, and when you see a sow in the wild, you dont always see her young cubs. most PA bear inhabitants are VERY thick brush, and PA bear are usually hunted in drives, therefore when you see a bear coming thru the brush at you a few yards away, you shoot! in this circumstance it is unfortunate the bear happened to be a sow with cubs, but once she was shot, the most humane thing to do is also shoot the cubs, or they will just die due to starvation or predators. also, to all you ppl out there who say its not right to kill and eat living things, im a biologist, and last time i checked, plants that you vegitarians eat are also living. us hunters not only keep the population of wildlife in check to prevent diseases and starvation within the animal communities, but our hunting licenses provide the funds to help keep forests from being destroyed so our wonderful wildlife will be around and healthy for several generations. your welcome, and good luck to all hunters this year!

Also for those of you who say Pennsylvania should create a bear weight restriction it is physically impossible. It would be extremely hard to identify a bear running through the buck lareals or even just standing in the opening just 50 yards away. I am not sayin that you cannot identify a cub from a mature Pa black bear but i am saying that identifing the weight of a bear is out of the question. So this is a two sided story. On the otherhand I'd like to congratulate the hunter who harvested the mature sow. Also I think the PGC should look into this harvest. I dont think all four bear would be shot in the same exact place. Well congrats again on the nice MATURE bear harvest. For you other hunters, next time let them bear walk, even i no that.

the mom is in the back the cubs wouldent leave her side so they had to kill them

Typing away on your computers, tucked nicely into your cramped apartments or house on a 1/3acre lots with a morgage you can barely afford, when you write these posts, they mean absolutely nothing.
You see, the problem lies with you people. You're only running your mouth (or fingers for that matter). This bear was shot well over a year ago and since then...14months to present time, here you are still thinking we hunters are actually weighing your opinions and factoring them into our decisions in the woods. Fact being, we honestly are not. Seriously, I think i hunted harder this year to spite your whimpers from the cheap seats. The 2008 bear season in PA was the third best harvest on record and it went off without issue. No doubt, cubs were killed along with some very nice sized bear, and every one who had the opportunity to enjoy the season hopefully did so. All the while, you people did nothing, and for the most part you never will, save for hiding behind your computers.
I know that my state wildlife agency that governs my seasons and bag limits is completely funded by the dollars of hunter's license sales, with additional proceeds granted through taxes collected on outdoor merchandise by the Pittman-Robertson Act. I'm overjoyed I do not have to rely on you to do anything to manage wildlife in my state because, and I consider this fact, you are both unbecoming and lazy. Much like the saddened course humanity has taken, this topic is merely a medium for uneducated people to voice their mindless drivel into an issue they have absolutely NO stake in. What the hell difference does it make someone shot an albino to you? You're still probably defaulting on your mortgage, or your parents will probably still pay your student loans and your cell phone bill even though there was an albino bear shot last year.

That's not an albino you idiots! It's a rare white/blonde black bear. It takes two parents each with the recessive gene to create that bear. She is called a Spirit Bear. If you are real hunters you would have known that! And if you didn't know that prior, you would have told Game and Fish in your area about her BEFORE you killed her. I live with a hunter and I am not against hunting. I am against ingnorance and this was plainly nohting more than that. Now an innocent cub lost her life becauase she was "rare and exotic". So don't tell me to calm down because yes, posting this comment will not bring those beautiful babies back to life, but it just may stop it from happening again. If enough people post about it or say something, then that might bring attention to the problem and maybe someone of power somewhere or somebody who can do something about it will see it and take the necessary measures to prevent it from happening again and sure my ancestors may have killed a few juveniles in their day, but my ancestors also didn't have a grocery store at every corner, it is no excuse they are sick and wrong. Its not an albino bear its a blonde bear or something, its illegal to shoot albinos. He probably shot the mom and the cubs wouldn't leave so he kicked their ass. Id do the same thing id love to punch a bear in the face, but i digress. When i deer hunt i just shoot all the 6month fawns because they taste great and are a lot easier to get out of the woods by yourself. Oh and the look on the momma deer face.....PRICELESS.
