Former Rocket awesome down south

Despite his team’s struggles Spring Grove alum Kelin Bidelspach is having a terrific season on the wrestling mats at Division I Campbell University.

The former Rocket is 17-2 this wrestling at 141 pounds for the 1-12 Fighting Camels, located in Buies Creek, North Carolina.

The sophomore business administration major is a perfect 6-0 in Colonial Athletic Association matches, against grapplers from schools like Hofstra, Old Dominion, Drexel and George Mason.

In fact, Bidelspach’s picture was featured on the wrestling page of the conference Web site (caaports.com) when he was named CAA co-wrestler of the week for the period ending January 21 after recording five wins at the CAA duals.

He has recorded a team-high five pins so far this season, one year after posting 13 victories as a freshman. In 2005-06, he actually appeared in 12 matches, going 7-5 in tournaments before receiving a medical redshirt following an injury at the Navy Classic.

Before heading south, Bidelspach was a four-year starter at Spring Grove and won sectional and District 3 titles before finishing eighth at the state meet in his senior season. He posted a then-school record 124 wins during a 124-30 high school career.

One liners: While New England on the verge of a perfect 19-0 season, the sound-bytes from the 1972 Miami Dolphins – the only other NFL team to go undefeated – are getting worse. Sorry Fins fans, but even if the Giants somehow beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl, this New England team (and the 1985 Chicago Bears) would have likely defeated that Miami team by more than a touchdown.
