McKee and others at Alvernia

Former York Catholic tennis star Jenny McKee made an immediate impact during her freshman season this fall at Alvernia College.

McKee went 10-2 playing at No. 1 singles for the Crusaders and teamed with Hannah Dickey to post a respectable 8-5 mark at No. 1 doubles.

She went 7-2 in the PAC before losing in the semifinals of the conference tournament to Davida Phillips of Gwynedd-Mercy College.

There are several other athletes on the rosters of the Reading school.

Also playing in the fall was West York alum Sarah Hartzell, a sophomore that appeared in three games for the volleyball team and Red Lion’s Jacob Pabst, who played in four games on the men’s soccer team during his frosh campaign.

Currently, Central York grad Ashley Blevins has played in 15 games, starting seven for 5-12 Alvernia women's basketball team. The senior averages nearly four points and three rebounds in a little more than 13 minutes per game.

Samantha Ward, a former guard for Red Lion is a sophomore and has appeared in 12 games, scoring just about a point a game for the Crusaders.

Bermudian Springs graduate Jonathan Harvey is a sophomore on the men’s hoops team. The reserve, who has made four appearances, scored his points on a 3-pointer this season.

Fellow former Eagle Chris Simoncini will be a sophomore on the Alvernia baseball team this spring.

The 2006 Bermudian alum made five starts and was in 19 games for the Lions. The first baseman was impressive in the action he saw, hitting .391 with 11 RBIs.

One liners: It’s nice to see such Plaxico Burress has confidence in his team when he predicted the Giants would beat New England in the Super Bowl by a touchdown. He should feel his team will win, and maybe they will, but I don't know if he should be saying it to the media. It is likely not smart to give the Patriots any bulletin board material. Way to go Plax.
