Ariail dominating at Randolph-Macon

What a season Molly Ariail is having down at Randolph-Macon University.

The former York Suburban standout leads the Yellow Jackets with 16.6 points per game and averages a team-high nine rebounds per contest, which includes a team-leading 60 boards for the season.

So far, Arial is the only player to top the 100 field goals made mark, shooting 123-of-268 for a solid percentage of .459.

The 6-2 center also has made 73.4 percent of her free throw attempts, is second on the team in blocked shots with 17 and third in steals with 33.

Amazingly, Ariail is putting up those great numbers in under 29 minutes played per game on the deep, talented Randolph-Macon squad that is 17-2 overall and in first place in the Division III Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 12-2 league mark.

The two-year starter for the school located in Ashland, Va., was named the ODAC Player of Week for the week of January 28, the third award earned by a Yellow Jacket this season.

Ariail, a 2006 Suburban grad, was a YAIAA all-star in her junior and senior seasons with the Trojans and totaled 1,180 points during her high school career. She was also a YAIAA volleyball all-star in 2006.

One liners: So the Phoenix Suns traded for an old, slowed by injuries Shaquille O’Neal as the missing piece of their championship puzzle. The Suns moved reportedly unhappy all-star forward Shawn Marion to the pitiful Miami Heat in the deal. Does this say something about Marion that he wanted off one of the NBA’s elite teams and willing to go to the worst the league has to offer?
