Saturday’s college spotlight highlights include Northeastern grad Siobhan Richards, who was great Shippensburg University’s last competition before the PSAC indoor track and field championships.
On Saturday, Richards won the 300 meter hurdles at the Kent State Tune Up with her time of 45.42 and had another top-10 finish individually with her eighth-place in the 60 meter dash.
Another YAIAA alum, Emily Dubs of Dover was on the Red Raiders’ 1,600 meter relay team that finished third at Kent.
Also at the Kent State Tune Up, Biglerville’s Joe Wagner ran his fastest 400 meter dash time of 49.94 and placed seventh overall.
In other Saturday action … West York’s Rob Estep scored 24 points in Hobart College’s 76-71 win over Skidmore College. The freshman scored eight points during the Statesmen’s pivotal 13-2 run. Fellow frosh and ex-Bulldog Tim Llewellyn added five points.
A pair of former YAIAA stars were instrumental in Sheppard College’s 70-52 win over Pitt-Johnson. Katie Warehime, a Littlestown alum, poured in 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Senior Laura Harkins (Spring Grove) added nine points, seven rebounds and five steals for the 21-5 West Virginia school.
Sports shorts: The Flyers were 3.7 seconds away from snapping their nine-game losing streak against Florida until a goal from the point tied the game and 1:16 into overtime Olli Jokinen score a power play goal for Philadelphia’s 10th straight loss.
And the Flyers lost their best player, Mike Richards, with a hamstring injury.
Now that is snake bit.
