Spartans on track at Shippensburg

With a mixture of Division II and Division III schools on hand, York College had several track athletes, including several former YAIAA standouts, perform well at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University last Saturday.

In the women’s competition Dallastown grad Caitlin Rizzardo, who recently won the Capital Athletic Conference pole vault title, placed second for York with a vault of 3.2 meters.

Other Spartan vaulters included a pair a Susquehannock grads, Anna Hershner and Kristen Cronise, who finished ninth and 14th respectively.

CAC hammer throw champ Sarah Becker of Red Lion placed fifth with a toss of 38.73 meters and one-time Northeaster student Melody Parshall was on the seventh place 1,600 meter relay team (4:30.16).

Parshall also ran a 5:09.45 in the 1,500 meter race and placed a solid 22nd out of 67.

On the men’s side, Red Lion grad Ryan Liggitt was fourth in the 200 meter run with a time of 22.52 and Eastern York’s Chad Richardson of was 11th in the 400 meter run (53.57).

Nate Krotzer, also of Eastern, capped a stellar career with the Spartans by placing seventh in the high jump (1.95 meters). Suburban grad Joe Hill, who placed second in the CAC in 110 hurdles and third in the 400 hurdles, closed out his final collegiate track career as well.

Junior Gabe Henise, a Dallastown alum, teamed with Liggitt on the fifth place 4 X 100 relay team that went 44.11.

Sport shorts: As much as I like Jon Bon Jovi music, I still can’t agree with his assessment that the Philadelphia Soul Arena Football League team he owns competing with the big four teams of the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers and Flyers.
Jon, your impact on the AFL has been tangible. You have increased interest in the league greatly with your involvement, however it is likely unrealistic to compare to those other four franchises.
Maybe you are “Living on a Prayer,” sorry I couldn’t resist.
Keep up the great work, musically and in the AFL.
