Evans an All-American

Nittany Lion defensive end Maurice Evans is a preseason All-American, for what it's worth.

Athlon Sports' College Football picked Evans, a Penn State junior in the fall, as a preseason first team All-American and recognized 11 Lions on their All-Big Ten teams -- with the season still more than three months away.

Last year, Evans recorded a sack in each of his first three games on his way to first-team All-Big Ten honors from the media and coaches. He was second in the conference in tackles for losses with 21.5 and third in sacks with 12.5.

He also was second in the Big Ten with five forced fumbles.

Athlon also picked five Lions on its All-Big Ten first team: Evans, punter Jeremy Boone, guard Rich Ohrnberger, center A.Q. Shipley and kick returner A.J. Wallace.

Three Lions were picked for the All-Big Ten second team (kicker Kevin Kelly, cornerback Lydell Sargeant and safety Anthony Scirrotto) and three more to the third team (receiver Deon Butler, defensive end Josh Gaines and punt returner Derrick Williams).
