Meerbach and Dips fall just short
York Suburban graduate Chelsea Meerbach and her Franklin & Marshall women’s lacrosse team fell just short of its second consecutive NCAA Division III national championship.
The Diplomats lost to Hamilton College, 13-6 Sunday in Salem, Va.
The Continentals’ Sarah Bray was too much for the defending champs as she came off the bench and scored five goals, earning tournament MVP honors in the process.
Bray scored three times during Hamilton’s six-goal run that changed a 2-all tie to an 8-2 lead late in the first half.
It was the first time all season F&M trailed by six goals.
“Hamilton had a great season and we could not be happier for them,” Diplomat coach Anne Phillips said in an e-mail release from the school. “We got to experience the same thing last season and hopefully we will be back next year.”
Meerbach, the back-up goalkeeper, did not see action in the tournament, but appeared in eight games this season, posting a solid 5.98 goals against average.
The junior, who was an honor student at York Suburban, is a mathematics and physics major at the top-notch academic institution.
Lancaster's F&M did Central Pennsylvania proud once again, finishing 19-2 on the season, one year after posting a perfect 21-0 record.
Hamilton, based in Clinton, N.Y., plays in the New England Small College Athletic Conference
