Bell to play for Norfolk State

Former troubled Penn State receiver Chris Bell has transferred to Norfolk State and plans to play this fall for the Division I-AA team, according to HamptonRoads.com.

The Virginia native was one of the nation's top high school receiving recruits when he signed with the Nittany Lions in February of 2005.

But despite all of his potential and even impressive practice reports, he never truly fit into the team's receiving rotation.

Last year he caught only seven passes for 143 yards. Apparently, mental miscues and bad route-running led to his downfall on the field.

But he also ended up in coach Joe Paterno's doghouse for poor academics. He was kicked off the team and out of school this spring for pulling a knife on a teammate in a campus dining hall.

"I don't have anything bad to say about Penn State," Bell told HamptonRoads.com. "Being at Penn State, you have to do a lot of things. I think I was only doing about 75 percent of it. I would go to class, do my work, but really I wasn't interested. Because I wasn't interested, I wasn't motivated."
