Is Dukes the next Lion?
He might be one of the most underrated tailbacks in the country.
Maybe.
And though it's been talked about for weeks among Nittany Lion diehards, New York's Curtis Dukes still hasn't verbally committed to Penn State.
Not yet, at least.
Dukes has tremendous size (6-foot-2, 235 pounds) and pretty good speed (4.4 40-yard time) for a kid from Philadelphia, N.Y. that not a lot of people know about.
Consider that some recruiting "experts" already have compared him to Curtis Enis, Aaron Harris and Tony Hunt, all former Lions.
All this from a player whose only scholarship offers so far are from the likes of Penn State, Maryland, Buffalo and Villanova.
That's the way it goes for high school football players from New York state. It's a big, difficult state to recruit without a ton of football tradition. Which also means it's a place to find steals or get the early jump on a talented prospect, like Penn State has done over the years (most recently with Stephfon Green and Andrew Quarless).
Dukes just camped at Penn State and has told FightOnState.com that he plans on visiting the school again in the next couple of weeks with his mother. Then, he said, he figures to make his decision known.
And it would be a big boost to a Penn State team that really needs a big-time talent -- if not a big-time name -- at tailback.
