Heyne on all-freshman team

Once again, we have a Mason Heyne report for the College Spotlight blog as the Rider University third baseman was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team on Wednesday.

The Susquehannock grad had a stellar season for the Broncs, hitting .332 with 63 hits. He blasted six home runs, drove in 44 and led the team with 18 doubles.

With Heyne’s help, Rider made the NCAA Regional, but had to face host Cal State Fullerton in the first game, an 11-0 loss, then Virginia, who defeated the Broncs 8-2.

Heyne went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in the season-ending loss to Virginia.

He also had five hits during Rider’s run to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship.

Seeing Heyne play for Susquehannock and Glen Rock in American Legion ball, it was obvious he is the real deal who is on his way to a great collegiate career.
