Mike Spangler, a former PIAA track and field champion at South Western High and scholastic coach at Bermudian Springs, was recently inducted into the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III Hall of Fame.

Spangler was honored for his success as a student at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove. There, he became a seven-time All-American whose times in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes remain school records.

The 1998 Susquehanna graduate was a four-time NCAA Division III champion and claimed 18 Middle Atlantic Conference championships. He was inducted into the university's sports hall of fame in 1993.
