It's time for a Cubs title
Forget the low-budget success stories of Tampa Bay, Florida and Oakland. No feel-good story tops the Chicago Cubs.
Not this year. Not when the title drought reaches a barely fathomable length of 100 years. Not with players like Kerry Wood and Ryan Dempster reinventing themselves to lead the north-siders. Not with likeable rookie sensations Geovany Soto and Kosuke Fukudome exceeding expectations.
Like always, it won't be easy for the Cubbies. They may have the best record in the National League, but the teams with the second- and third-best records (St. Louis and CC Sabathia-infused Milwaukee, respectively) play in their own division. All the more reason to pull for the Cubs to a monumental streak of futility once it hits the century mark.
It's long past time for the fans at Wrigley Field to celebrate a championship. Watching this year's group of Cubs try to make that happen will be one of the most fun parts of the second-half of the season for this baseball fan.
