York Suburban grad Derrick Bass, shown carrying the ball for the Trojan football team, had a terrific spring for the Millersville track and field team.

Bass posted best times in several events. The 100 meters (11.12) and 200 meter (22.30). He was on the top sprint relays, the 400 meter (42.73) and 800 meter (1:33.17). He also had the spring's best long jump of 22-7¼.

Delone Catholic alum Lucas Neiderer had a team-best high jump of 5-10 and accumulated a high 4,491 points at the Shippensburg Decathlon.

Dennis Quirk of Kennard-Dale had the top javelin toss (169-1).

Central York's Brittany Zuver posted the team's best time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:45.30) and was on the top 3,200 meter relay squad (9:44.40).

Krysty Geesey, a Dover grad, was on a pair of top performing relays. The 400 meter (50.95) and 1,600 meter (4:11.09).

Eastern York's Brittany Hartman posted best throws in two events, the discus (90-8) and hammer (134-2).

Lindsey Clark of Kennard-Dale's shot put of 34-2½ was best.

Geesey, Neiderer and Quirk were also named all-PSAC scholar-athletes, along with YAIAA grads Andrew Brown (South Western, football), Emily Colburn (South Western, lacrosse), Kari Cover (Bermudian Springs, basketball), Andrew Downs (Red Lion, football), Nicole Goble (Susquehannock, swimming), Jacqueline Iannuzzi (Susquehannock, soccer), Alexa Mann (Central York, swimming), Stacy O'Connell (West York, soccer), Amy Thornton (cross country, track, Northeastern) and Megan Urban (Central York, volleyball).

Sport shorts: Florida quarterback Tim Tebow made the news recently when he turned down being on Playboy Magazine's preseason All-American team,.

It seems the because of his religious convictions, the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner feels that a magazine that portrays nude women isn't something he wants to be associated with.

I am not going to judge his stance. In fact, I admire his conviction to his beliefs.

However that being said, after casting a moral stone like that let's hope the admirable young man doesn't find himself in any kind of off-the-field trouble.
