York College is bringing home one of its own with the hiring of Jamie Swartz as its field hockey coach replacing recently-departed head coach Megan Eckenrode.

Swartz, a 1999 alum, was a four-year starter for the Spartans and helped lead the team to 48 wins over her career, including a 15-4 record her senior season when she was named as the team MVP.

She was a four-time all-Capital Athletic Conference selection and was also a NFHCA all-regional all-star twice in her playing career.

It is Swartz's second time on the York staff as upon her graduation she became an assistant to long-time coach Vicki Sutton for two seasons, in which the Spartans went 22-10 and achieved a national ranking.

"I expect us to be very competitive this year," Swartz said in a news release. "We will work extremely hard in preseason camp and we will be prepared each day, whether practice or a game. It is going to be a fun challenge for me and the players.

"I am excited to get the opportunity to return to my alma matter. Many of my fondest memories of my years at York were with my hockey family or took place on the field of play. Getting the opportunity to guide the next generation of York College field hockey players is very exciting for me."

York assistant dean of athletics and recreation Sean Sullivan said he was "thrilled to have Jamie guide our field hockey program."

"As an alum, she brings a high level of professionalism, enthusiasm and a dedication to York College and our field hockey program. Jamie was an outstanding player at York and her experience will help her guide this program to the next level."
