Week 5 Power Rankings

The top four remains the same after a week where upsets were hard to come by. South Western and York Catholic nudge their way into the rankings with impressive victories, while Biglerville and Red Lion fall off the grid.

Below are the rankings and the rationale. That's two of the three r's. All that's missing is the reaction. That's where you come in. The comments section awaits.

1. William Penn (4-0): The Bearcats are on pace to score more than 500 points this regular season, and with the way Division I defenses have been playing so far this year, I wouldn't be the least surprised if they do it. These young men know how to play the game of football.

2. Dallastown (4-0): While the Bearcats are winning games with relative ease, the Wildcats have played relative nailbiters the last three consecutive weeks. Most recently, Dallastown led by only two points with New Oxford possessing the ball midway through the fourth quarter. Nonetheless, Dallastown has proved it know how to perform in the clutch and close out games.

3. West York (3-1): Which sounds better: Highlight Real or Realdiculous? Brandon Real scored six touchdowns in the first half of last week's game at Hanover and will no doubt continue to be a weapon for a squad that looks poised to defend its Division II title.

4. Delone Catholic (4-0): The Squires went on the road against a solid Biglerville squad and simply dominated in a 35-0 victory. The Delone defense does not mess around and the running game is legit. It's less than three weeks until the showdown against Littlestown.

5. Central York (3-1): The Panthers racked up 59 points on the road in a divisional game. which helps them leapfrog Littlestown into the top five. This has been a new team since that opening week loss and looks poised to make it back to the playoffs.

6. Littlestown (4-0): Jerrod Reynolds apparently didn't realize he was playing high school football, putting up numbers more reminiscent of a Division I college or NFL game. The senior went 21-of-33 for 365 yards. He threw two interceptions but also connected on four touchdowns, proving himself and the Thunderbolts offense as a whole to be a serious weapon.

7. Bermudian Springs (3-1): That's three in a row now for the Eagles who look like they are destined for a return to the playoffs after 4-6 in 2007. They are certainly a legitimate contender for the Division III title as well, despite how well the Squires are playing.

8. South Western (2-2): Have the Mustangs finally figured it out? It's hard to tell. They did win by 30 points, but the team they defeated was winless Dover. They have to travel to Dallastown this weekend, which will almost certainly be their toughest test to date.

9. York Suburban (2-2): The Trojans couldn't win a shootout at Littlestown, but showed that they can hang with a top-notch team. The only other loss for Suburban this season came against undefeated Dallastown and there's enough reason to think the Trojans have a decent shot at the District 3 Class AA playoffs.

10. York Catholic (3-1): The Fighting Irish easily took care of York County Tech on Friday to start it's Division III slate with a win. Not bad, but York Catholic has a lot much more to prove and it starts at Kennard-Dale on Saturday.
