Week 6 Power Rankings
Where are the upsets?
The top seven teams from last week all emerged as winners, further separating themselves from the rest of the YAIAA. When that happens, it makes compiling this list easier, but it also makes things less exciting.
Nonetheless, the question remains, are my rankings fair? Accurate? Both? Neither? Let your opinions be known in the comments section.
1. William Penn (5-0): The Bearcats set a new season-high for points by putting up 66 at Dover and show no signs of slowing down going into Friday's contest at New Oxford.
2. Dallastown (5-0): A shutout victory over South Western may be evidence that the Wildcats are hitting their stride at the right time before hosting red-hot Central York on Friday night.
3. West York (4-1): The Bulldogs barely had any trouble on the road against Eastern York, scoring 28 consecutive points in the second quarter to build a sizeable lead and cruise to another victory. The rest of Division II is once again in trouble.
4. Delone Catholic (5-0): Any hopes Fairfield had of pulling the upset must have been greatly diminished after the Squires went up 14-0 without running a single offensive play. The Squires have to be considered favorites to not only win the Division III crown again, but repeat as District 3 Class AA champions.
5. Central York (4-1): The Central offense is firing on all cylinders. Don't believe me? Did you hear about the Panthers winning 61-0 on the road against New Oxford to improve to 2-0 in Division I? The big question now is how well Central will match up with Dallastown on Friday night.
6. Littlestown (5-0): The Thunderbolts have taken down every opponent that has been in their way this season, scoring at least 40 points each time. They have proved they belong in Division II. They will have to take down West York to prove they belong at the top.
7. Bermudian Springs (4-1): That's four in a row for the Eagles, who have already matched their win total from the 2007 season only halfway through 2008. A win over Susquehannock this week could go a long way in playoff seeding.
8. York Suburban (3-2): The Trojans did what they needed to do to pick up another victory last week and the offense seems to be particularly potent this season. If Suburban can avoid defensive lapses like the ones that helped Littlestown post 56 on the Trojans in Week 4, the squad should be playoff-bound.
9. Biglerville (3-2): The only loss for the Canners over the last four weeks came against undefeated Delone Catholic, so Biglerville has a lot to be proud of so far this season. But if they can't beat York Catholic on the road this week, they'll have a hard time calling themselves a legitimate contender.
10. Red Lion (2-3): The Lions sneak back in to the top 10 following their divisional victory over Spring Grove last week even after the dismissal of starting quarterback Chad Kelly. The Lions still have an outside shot at the playoffs if they can win at least four of its final five games.
