York College round-up

York College featured some great sports action, some of which involved YAIAA alumni this past weekend.

On Saturday, the Spartan women's soccer team captured a 2-0 decision over Gwynedd-Mercy College thanks to goals from Kali Macgregor and Kennard-Dale grad Jill Stanley.

Stanley holds the team-highs with three goals and seven points.

Eastern York's April McFarland scored twice in York's 3-2 Capital Athletic Conference field hockey loss at Mary Washington, also on Saturday.

McFarland, who now has six goals, erased a 2-0 deficit by scoring both of her goals in a span of 3:23. She has 67 career goals -- fourth on the Spartans' all-time list.

Red Lion alum Kevin Snyder and Shane Lohss from Northeastern recorded top-40 finishes for York's cross country team during the McDaniel College Green Terror Challenge, held in Westminster, Md.

Senior Jesse Jaeger led the locals with a fourth-place finish as the Spartans place third of eight teams in the 3K and fourth of 10 in the 5K events.

York's Kemal Nuspahic was named the CAC men's soccer Player of the Week after scoring two goals and assisting on another during a pair of home victories for the nationally fourth-ranked Spartans.

Nuspahic, a Lancaster County Warwick grad, notched the only marker in a 1-0 win over Johns Hopkins last Wednesday, then followed with an assist and the insurance goal in York's 2-0 win over 25th-ranked Lynchburg on Saturday.

In an interesting side note, the Spartan men's and women's track and field teams will host a "Kids night out" on September 27 at the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center.

Kids are invited to the campus from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. where they can have pizza, sports drinks and water, while having a great time playing wiffle ball, basketball and running relays in a supervised environment.

The cost is $15 for the first child in the family and $10 for each additional child with the proceeds going to the track and field teams.

Interested parents can visit the track & field pages at www.ycpspartans.com or contact men's track & field coach Erick Camodeca at ecamodec@ycp.edu for more information.
