Week 9 Power Rankings

| | Comments (4)

William Penn continues to make me look reasonably intelligent by continuing to win every week they are at the top of this poll. As far as everybody else goes, there is plenty of change this week.

Dallastown gets back into the top five after a convincing win over Dover. Red Lion moves to its highest spot of the year at No. 4 after improving it's win streak to four games. Delone falls to No. 6 after losing to Bermudian, Kennard-Dale drops off entirely after getting blown out by West York and Suburban makes a return after taking down Susquehannock on the road.

Have any thoughts? Let them be known by posting in the comments section. The full Top 10 is below.

1. William Penn (8-0): Consistency. Week after week. Game after game. The Bearcats pound the competition. I've seen them play multiple times -- they are a dominant squad and should win easily again this week against South Western.

2. Central York (7-1): I'm tempted to put the Panthers and the Bulldogs both at No. 2 and call it a tie, but that's the easy way out. Central gets the slight edge over West York because the Panthers reinvented themselves after losing to the Bulldogs in Week 1 and have been essentially untouchable since, including last week.

3. West York (7-1): The Bulldogs have not been challenged at all in Division II play and Susquehannock and Littlestown will both have a hard time slowing down a West York team that seems to be hitting its stride in all phases of the game.

4. Red Lion (5-3): The Lions have looked good over the last four wins, but that might be because those victories came against the bottom half of Division I that has a combined record of 6-26. How Red Lion plays against Central will tell a lot about whether they will be able to compete in the posteason should they get there.

5. Dallastown (6-2): The Wildcats answered plenty of questions last week when they racked up 49 points in a big win over Dover. With Chris Hunt still at QB and players like Ben Kline making big plays on defense, the Wildcats should be able to make the playoffs and maybe even move into the top eight of the points standings and earn a home game.

6. Delone Catholic (7-1): Great teams don't get shut out and lose by 22 points, right? Right? Well, I don't really know the answer there, but I do know that the Squires have two weeks to get their act together before they begin their District 3 Class AA tournament title defense.

7. Biglerville (6-2): The Canners rolled to an easy victory once again and are only two wins away from winning the first division title in the program's 37-year history (although they may have to share it with a couple other teams).

8. Bermudian Springs (6-2): The biggest victory of the year for the Eagles helped bump them up to the No. 6 spot in the Class AA playoff standings. If Bermudian wins out against Hanover and York Catholic, the Eagles return to the postseason. The way they are playing now, they won't be a welcome opponent for anybody.

9. Littlestown (6-2): A victory over Northeastern doesn't tell much about whether the Thunderbolts are ready for the postseason, but the two-game losing streak is snapped and the Thunderbolts still have a shot at a share of the Division II title if they can beat Eastern York and pull off the upset over West York in Week 10.

10. York Suburban (5-3): The Trojans have a pair of tough games to end the season against Kennard-Dale and Biglerville and will need their defense to step up to the taks against two of the top rushing offenses in the league.

Best of luck Bearcats this week. Another stepping stone to repeating as County Champions.

You mean Division I champions...

There are no county playoffs in football

What about KD?!? they beat littlestown

If there was a No. 11 spot, I would put Kennard-Dale there. The Rams did beat Littlestown, but the Thunderbolts' body of work is better than the Rams thus far. If K-D scores a win over Suburban this week, expect to see the Rams back in the power rankings.
