Central York football coach Brad Livingston talked about how he was proud of his team being able to come up with a postseason victory on a night when the Panthers "weren't really in sync at all."
Finding a way to earn a victory when the overall performance is less than stellar, particularly when the season is on the line, is a commendable achievement and Livingston has every reason to feel proud. Of course, if the Panthers don't play better next week, they're probably in a lot of trouble.
"We have to go back to the board and we just have to dot all the i's and cross all the t's and take care of details," Livingston said. "I didn't really do a good job this week, very obviously, taking care of details."
Taking care of details? What exactly does that mean?
"Oh, we had people line up wrong, the botched snap on the punt -- that was all me because I didn't communicate with the kids," Livingston said. "In all seriousness, it was sort of one small error after another. Fortunately, they are easy to correct."
The No. 3 Panthers (10-1) were penalized eight times for 44 yards in the 24-21 victory, and most of those came from illegal procedure penalties on offense before the snap. None of them ended up being too pivotal, but keeping those mistakes to a minimum this week against No. 6 Governor Mifflin (9-2) in the quarterfinals should make a big difference.
