A local golf legend's passing

Despite his passing at age 63, Dallastown golf coach Rick Kehr will remain with many of us for years to come.

The coaching legend spent more than 40 years at the Wildcat helm and was a World Cultures teacher at the high school for 31 years.

Kehr was always the guy to call with a question about high school golf, but his love of the game and students went much deeper than that.

Even after battling illness Kehr helped out at the 2007 YAIAA and District 3 golf tournaments at Briarwood Golf Club.

Although he became an amputee because of diabetes, Kehr still joined the Eastern Amputee Golf Association as a part of the group's program that provided amputees with clubs and clinics.

He was very interested in the "Wounded Warrior" program, where the association goes to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., to provide clinics for veterans wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan and furnish them with clubs.

Kehr and his friends delivered the clubs at a free "Learn to Golf" clinic for people with disabilities.

And golf wasn't his only interest as Kehr loved all sports at Dallastown. For years he could be seen at the scorers table holding keeping the book for the Wildcat basketball team.

Enjoy the fairways up there Rick. You will be missed.
