Once again Lauren Beckley (above) is showing the PSAC what a YAIAA alum can do on the hardwoods.
The Shippensburg University junior and 2006 Fairfield grad recently recorded her seventh double-double of the season when she scored 31 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the Red Raiders' 80-69 win at Mansfield. The effort came at the right time, helping end one-time ranked Ship's six-game losing streak.
She followed that effort with a 34-point, 14-rebound perfomance in Saturday's televised 77-67 win over East Stroudsburg.
Beckley, the 2008 PSAC West Player of the Year, leads Shippensburg (7-7) in points (19.9) and rebounds (9.7) per game. She has hit on 46 percent of her shots from the floor (41% 3-point range) and tops 82 percent from the free throw line.
A season ago, she led the Raiders with 23.1 points and 11.1 boards per contest during the season in which she broke the university record for points in a game with her 47 against Lock Haven.
With her 3.62 grade-point average Beckley is a PSAC scholar athlete as well.
For the time being she holds the YAIAA girls' record for career points with 2,258, although that could be in danger with Northeastern's Autumn Lau recently surpassing 2,000 with several games yet to play.
