Not that York College was going to lose to lowly Salisbury on Saturday, but Jamie Polan gave the Spartans a nice spark coming off the bench.
The West York grad, seen below driing to the basket against the Sea Gulls, scored seven points in 15 minutes and had one of the best four-minnute spans in a season of great play for 12-1 York.
Polan had a terrific layup and two minutes later stole the ball and fed senior Keli Ward for a layup.
On the next Salisbury possession, Polan stole the ball again and a little while later she gathered in her third takeaway two minutes, this time turning it into a fastbreak layup herself for a 54-29 Spartan lead.
"This was a breakout game for Jamie," York coach Betsy Witman said. "I am really proud of her."
Now a junior, Polan doesn't even resemble the player we saw as a freshman at York.
She is more confident and looks completely comfortable with her role for York.
"I think my time as a freshman was to learn a lot," Polan said. "I am still learning a lot from Keli. I think what I needed to transition from high school to college was to learn from my teammates.
Polan said she has relied on fellow nursing major Ward off-the-court, as well as 2008 nursing grad and former Spartan star Kristin Daly.
"They tell me what to expect and how to manage my time," she said. "It is definitely hard, but you have learn to manage your time. That is what it is all about."
