Mid-Districts Power Rankings

Anybody know anything about that William Penn boys game on Saturday? I heard it was pretty good.

Anyway, in more unfortunate news for the YAIAA, the only girls team to finish the regular season undefeated and the league tournament champion will have to play each other with a state berth on the line. The loser of that Northeastern-West York game in the consolation bracket of the District 3 Class AAA tournament will be eliminated. Season over.

Those squads were the top two teams in these rankings last week, but both lost in the district quarterfinals. It makes putting this week's rankings together that much difficult. But I didn't let that keep me from trying.

Full rankings after the jump. Utilize the comments section to add your thoughts.

Boys

1. William Penn (27-0): After the greatest basketball comeback I have ever seen at any level, the Bearcats have punched their ticket to the state tournament and are only two wins away from a district title.

2. Eastern York (25-2): Down go the defending PIAA champs as well as any doubts about whether the Golden Knights should be considered one of the top teams in the state.

3. Red Lion (8-14): If the Lions would have been placed in the bottom half of the District 3 Class AAAA draw they would have had a great shot at making the title game.

4. York Suburban (21-4): The Trojans are winning and winning big. Now all they have to do is beat defending district champion and state runner-up No. 1 Susquehanna Township in Monday's semifinals. No sweat, right?

5. Delone Catholic (17-7): The Squires are really coming into their own during the most important time of the season.

6. West York (16-6): Nobody expected the Bulldogs to lose in the first round of the district tournament for the second year in a row.

7. New Oxford (17-8): The Colonials are still only one win away from the state tournament.

8. Kennard-Dale (12-12): The Rams gave Susquehanna quite a scare in the first round and may have established a strong foundation for years to come.

9. Dallastown (13-11): The young group should easily be able to make a return to the postseason next year.

10. Central York (12-12): Neither Hanover nor York Catholic could make a run in the District 3 Class AA tournament, so the Panthers remain in the top 10.

Girls

1. Eastern York (21-5): West York has the league tournament title, but Eastern has a state tournament berth and a good shot at the district crown.

2. Delone Catholic (23-3): It's hard to believe Sierra Moore is only a freshman.

3. York Catholic (20-6): It's just as hard to believe Kady Schrann is only a sophomore.

4. Red Lion (18-6): The Lions have suddenly become a clutch postseason team.

5. West York (21-5): The Bulldogs have had an incredible run over the last few weeks, but face a tall order if they want to play in states.

6. Northeastern (23-2): The Bobcats are incredibly talented, but haven't been able to get it done in the postseason so far. They can make up for it with a state tournament run, but they need to get past the Bulldogs first.

7. Spring Grove (18-9): Speaking of state berths, No. 15 Spring Grove just needs to win one of its next two games to get in.

8. Kennard-Dale (14-10): Nine wins over the previous three years and then 14 in 2008-09. Not too shabby.

9. Dallastown (12-12): A solid end to the year after a rocky start.

10. New Oxford (14-9): The Colonials can feel good about a strong regular season.
