William Penn senior forward didn't have to think twice about it. Of course Wednesday's triple-overtime win over Central Bucks South in the second round of the PIAA Class AAAA tournament was the most exhausting game he had been a part of.

"This is the most," Generett said. "We just went out and worked hard. Shoot, I ain't never played that many quarters, that many overtimes, but it feels good to have a victory."

The guys on the sidelines were fatigued as well.

"I don't know what to say," William Penn coach Troy Sowers (pictured above) said. "I don't think I've ever been more exhausted in my life."

Sowers said the William Penn principal allowed the varsity players to come in two hours late to school the next morning (the coach half-jokingly wondered aloud if he might be able to get similar permission), but the recovery from Wednesday's game will consist of more than just rest.

The Bearcats proved again that they can survive a tough fight, but will almost certainly need to smooth some rough edges if they hope to bring home the state title.

"First, our passing," Generett said when asked where his team needs to improve from Wednesday's performance. "We have to make stronger passes because a lot of soft passes caused us turnovers. Foul shots. And just staying together as a team like we are. All year our main focus has been staying together all game and we did that. From the first quarter until the ed of the fourth, that's our main thing."

Or until the end of the third overtime. Either way.

William Penn (30-1) has exactly two days of practice before Saturday's 3 p.m. showdown at Villanova University against District 11 champion Parkland (26-3). The Bearcats are the only one of the seven District 3 teams to make the 32-team field still alive. Sowers credits his players and how they "refuse to lose."

Pure will alone may not be enough to win basketball games at this level, but it provides a great start for a talented team like William Penn. Combine it with two strong practices and steady play on Saturday and the Bearcats have to like their odds of reaching the semifinals.

Congratulations to all the county basketball programs for making the state stand up and take notice.
