Did you figure out there was a new No. 1? Did you? If not, that's OK, because I'm telling you right not. There's a new No. 1.
The young Northeastern boys' volleyball team has always had the talent, and lately they have been showing a great amount of poise under pressure against the district's best. It has helped them follow-up an undefeated league season and YAIAA tournament title with a District 3 Class AA crown, and established themselves as one of the favorites heading into the state tournament.
There are plenty of other changes from last week's rankings as well. See them all after the jump and add your take in the comments section.
1. Northeastern boys' volleyball: The Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association has them ranked fourth in the state. I have a hunch they're even better. We'll know by Saturday afternoon exactly how the Bobcats stack up against Pennsylvania's best Class AA teams.
2. Central York boys' tennis: Not unlike the team ranked above them, the Panthers dominated league competition and made a statement in the district tournament. Still a fantastic season, even though they did lose in the first round of states.
3. Kennard-Dale girls' lacrosse: The Rams have lost to only the best in the district this season and I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled off a victory or two in the state tournament. Don't forget, this is only the program's first season of varsity competition.
4. Susquehannock softball: The season is over for the Warriors, but they still have a YAIAA title and a pair of victories over Kennard-Dale, so they remain ahead of the Rams, at least for now.
5. Kennard-Dale softball: The Rams just need to win one of their next two games to reach the PIAA Class AAA tournament and completely seize the softball spotlight from Susquehannock and Central York.
6. Central York boys' volleyball: The Panthers are back in the state tournament a year after losing in a five-game heartbreaker in the PIAA title match. Central is more of an underdog to make it back to the championship this season, but there is definitely a chance that they make a run.
7. Red Lion boys' lacrosse: A district tournament win and an undefeated regular seaosn still look impressive, especially for a debut season.
8. Northeastern baseball: Things were going so well for the Bobcats, then they have one bad game in the first round of the district tournament and their season is over.
9. Dallastown girls' soccer: They're the best girls' soccer team in the YAIAA, but I guess that doesn't exactly guarntee district success. Still, the Wildcats have a league tournament title.
10. York Suburban boys' volleyball: The Trojans make their first appearance in the rankings this season after qualifying for the district semifinals and earning a spot in the PIAA Class AA tournament. Central York softball is just barely on the outside looking in after a rough finish and no state berth.
