Quest for a 95 (and a gratuitous Caddyshack clip)

There really is nothing better than a golfing on a nice summer day.

But, there's really nothing more frustrating than golfing on a nice summer day.

After a two-year absence from the links, I've determined that this summer is the season I get my golf game in order. My goal is to consistently hit a 95 by the end of this summer.

I know, not the loftiest of goals, but hear me out.

I've never been too much of a serious golfer. Back in high school I used to go regularly in the summers. My friends lived down the street from Clifton Park Golf Course in Baltimore, so we frequented there. Since then, I've gone for bachelor parties and the occasional round, but this summer I've caught the golf bug.

I've been out three times so far this summer:

-Mid-May at Cool Creek was my first time out and by all accounts a disaster. (Score withheld)
-A few weeks ago at Briarwood East I shot about a 105.
-Last week at Clifton I hit 100, thanks to an epic back nine and a 7-foot birdie put on hole 18.

Tomorrow, I have a morning tee time at Briarwood West.

So how do I get over that hump and shed five strokes? I've stopped taking stupid shots, a la "Tin Cup". My drive isn't great, but it doesn't kill me. I'm great with my irons. And so-so on my putting.

Maybe I should take some tips from Chevy Chase:

By the way, check out this map of local golf course we put together last year. We're working on uploading the audio onto a different server, so that feature will be available shortly.

I think once I shed my disastrous left hook on my drives I'll be floating around 100 myself. Good luck to you sir!!
