The best in the YAIAA … continued

The YAIAA basketball tournament opened with a bang this past weekend.

ICYMI, the West York girls survived a 35-point effort from Delone’s Sierra Moore, Eastern York won its 17th straight, York Catholic defeated Dallastown and the Red Lion girls — in search of their 11th YAIAA title — were too much for Susquehannock.

BTW, did you know the Lion girls won five titles in a row recently? You can comb through all the winners here.

And on the boys’ side, we watched York Suburban defeat Northeastern, Dover outlast York Catholic in overtime, William Penn dispatch Delone Catholic in not one, but two overtimes and South Western win a close one against Bermudian.

So while the best in the league continue to battle it out for the title, take another look at what some YAIAA players deemed to be “the best” in the league.

And here’s a look at some more responses:

HAYLEY HARROLD, CENTRAL YORK

What’s the best opposing gym to play in?
Red Lion is a lot like our gym so it feels like playing at home. That is probably the best one for us because its a replicate of our gym so it feels most comfortable to us.

Which opposing school has the best locker rooms?
Spring Grove has pretty nice locker rooms. They are a newer school, so they are pretty nice.

Which opposing school has the best mascot?
I always liked the Dallastown Wildcats. A Wildcat is always a solid mascot.

Who is the best player you will face this year?
The best overall team is Red Lion I think, and their girls are pretty strong so I think anyone on their team.

Who is the best player you will face this year?
Sierra Moore, Delone Catholic. She can do it all.

Probably Delone because it’s a huge rivalry, and their fans are always on us. Our schools are close so we always have a lot of fans at the game.

Which opposing school has the best locker rooms?
I would have to say York High. It’s pretty big, and I feel comfortable in there.

Which opposing school has the best mascot?
Probably Central because it’s just a good mascot. I just like that type, a Panther. It’s an angry type of animal that can get you hyped.

Who is the best player you will face this year?
If we get to play Central, I’d say Tremaine Bowman. If we face York High, I’d say Dejian Williams. They’re two of the best players in York County. Dejian just hit 1,000. Tremaine can always get points on the board.
