To kick off the GameTimePA Question of the Week feature, we asked athletes at the District 3 Track and Field Championships, "What's your favorite memory from this year?" Watch their video responses, and submit your own through the app or website Tout.

To kick off the GameTimePA Question of the Week, we hit up the District 3 Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University so a dozen or so athletes could show how it’s done. The question was, “What’s your favorite memory from this year?”

We received plenty of good answers and surprisingly only a few shots for the blooper reel. Be sure to submit your own 15-second video using the smart phone app from Tout, or record it with your laptop camera on www.tout.com. Then submit it by addressing it @GameTimePA or @AdamMichaelYDR. We’ll take our favorites each week and post them on the blog.

Without further ado, here’s a compilation of today’s answers.

As a sports media group, we do our very best to speak with as many players as we can throughout the year. Still, there are plenty of athletes with a lot to say who we unfortunately never get to interview.

With the help of Tout, we’re able to open up the floor to all those unheard voices. Where Twitter allows 140 characters per post, Tout is a video service that allows users 15 seconds of recording time to share brief glimpses into our lives. The program can be found with a quick app store search on any smart phone. You can also use your trusty webcam and internet connection to upload a video at www.tout.com.

Each week we will ask a question to the athletes of the GameTimePA coverage area. Tweet us your favorite answers @GameTimePA so that we’ll notice it. The best answers each week will be collected into one big highlight reel.

Friday, we’ll get things started at the District 3 Track & Field Championships at Shippensburg University. Look for Adam Michael at the meet to answer this week’s question: ‘What’s your favorite memory of the year?’

We will accept online submissions throughout the week as well. Make sure to encourage some of your most quotable friends to enter!

(DAILY RECORD/SUNDAY NEWS – CHRIS DUNN )

Kennard-Dale senior Dylan Moynihan had just stepped off the podium after earning a YAIAA gold in the boys’ pole vault when he looked for his lucky hat. Once he found it late Monday afternoon, just as the sun was setting on the makeup day for the league’s track and field championships, Moynihan talked about his hat, vaulting at Dallastown and more. Here’s what he had to say:

Your hat’s your trademark?
Yeah every dual meet and invitational I’ve worn it. Except for today.

Why not today?
They wouldn’t let me. That made me mad.

Think they’ll let you wear it for districts?
No. … maybe. I don’t know, we’ll find out.

What’s so special about the hat.
It’s my hat. I don’t know. It’s a redneck’s trademark, I guess. (laughs)

You set the meet pole vault record at the Wildcat Invitational here at Dallastown a few weeks ago. Is there something you like about this place?
I love the runway. Just more of the environment. I really wish this was held on Friday because today, I felt the atmosphere was more lazy and mellow.

Was it more the weather or atmosphere that took away from the continued day of the meet?
I jump pretty well, I think, in cold weather as hot weather. It doesn’t really faze me. Headwinds faze me. Usually if I have a tailwind or it’s cold, I just block it out. Today, just little, little tweaks and I would have had it. Would have had 14-9, but it didn’t happen.

Are you more disappointed in that or you more happy to be a YAIAA champion?
I’m more disappointed. I don’t think 14 feet is good enough to be a county champion. I don’t think so. I wanted it to be higher. I was looking today to come back with the school record, for one, because that would have beaten the long-lasting school record. But I wanted to come back with a 15-6 to bring the school record and county record back to Kennard-Dale because it was just beaten last year by Jared (Allison). It was in Kennard-Dale’s name a long time, and Jared beat it. This was my second time with this pole, and I just couldn’t pull it off.

Just the second time, huh?
The 15-80, yeah.

What’s the other time you used it?
Here at Dallastown (when he set that meet record).

Is there something about a new pole?
It’s not the new pole, it’s how you hit the new pole. If you get a new pole and it’s too big for you, you can’t even get on it. Then it’s not usable. You got to get a new pole that’s usable, and that’s what we’re doing with this 15-80. Today I was landing far enough back into the pit where it was usable.
I think (this) week I’m going to use it in practice, getting all the way through with the row, and I’m going to be confident with a 15-foot-plus jump at districts.

Why didn’t you use this new pole more between the Wildcat Invitational and the postseason?
At Dallastown, I couldn’t quite get on it like I’d like to. It was at Dallastown where I went up, came right back down and was almost killing myself with it. I practiced almost one day each week with it, but the 15-75 was really got the plant.
Usually we’ll use a 15-75 for the lower heights because we blow through it so much. It’s not enough pop to get us up high.

With the final District 3 softball rankings set, teams know where they stand. All Class AAAA and AAA first-round will be played Tuesday. Here’s what the district picture looks like for YAIAA schools:

<img src="http://www.yorkblog.com/varsity/files/2013/05/CYsoft-300x198.jpeg" alt="Central York's Kelsey Shifflett, left, embraces catcher Ally Dziwis after their 2-0 win over Delone Catholic in the YAIAA championship game on Monday night at New Oxford High School. (GAMETIMEPA.COM — SHANE DUNLAP)

• Central York, No. 3 in Class AAAA, will face Warwick. No. 8 Red Lion gets Lower Dauphin, No. 10 Dallastown travels to Solanco and No. 16 Spring Grove will face top-seeded Cumberland Valley.
• Class AAA No. 8 Susquehannock gets No. 9 Northern York. No. 11 Kennard-Dale faces No. 6 Shippensburg. Dover, as the 15th seed, will travel to No. 2 Donegal. The top seed in this bracket is undefeated Twin Valley, which won the inaugural Red Lion invitational last month with the Lions, Kennard-Dale and Spring Grove.

Class AA has two play-in games Tuesday. Littlestown will play in one as the 10th seed against No. 7 Pequea Valley. The winner gets No. 2 Delone Catholic, which is coming off a YAIAA championship game loss to Central York.

While on the subject of the diamond, here’s how YAIAA baseball teams stack entering district play on Monday:
• No. 8 Spring Grove is the highest seeded YAIAA team in Class AAAA and faces Wilson. No. 13 South Western will play No. 4 Warwick and No. 14 Dallastown visits No. 3 Mechanicsburg.
• No. 3 Littlestown will play No. 14 Kennard-Dale for an All-YAIAA matchup in Class AAA. No. 8 West York will play No. 9 Northeastern in another All-YAIAA matchup. The Bulldogs won both of their regular-season meetings. Meanwhile, No. 12 Susquehannock will play No. 5 Oley Valley.
• Delone Catholic is the Class AA top seed and will face No. 8 Berks Catholic in a quarterfinal Monday. Hanover just missed the postseason and finished ninth in the district. Meanwhile, in Class A, No. 2 York Catholic will face No. 7 Mount Calvary Christian.

<img src="http://www.yorkblog.com/varsity/files/2013/05/WYbase-300x199.jpeg" alt="West York's Brandon Kinneman tries to catch a pick-off attempt on Spring Grove's Dalton Hoiles during Tuesday's YAIAA championship game at Sovereign Bank Stadium. (GAMETIMEPA.COM — SHANE DUNLAP)

For Central York in softball and West York in baseball, the district tournament arrives with momentum from YAIAA championship victories. For the Bulldogs in baseball, the league title can give an extra shot of confidence after they went through most of the season with a .500 record.

But for a team like Spring Grove, the district opener offers a chance to forget a championship loss after the highs of getting there.

“It’s a new season come Monday,” Spring Grove coach Eric Zeigler said after Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to West York. “We’ve earned ourselves to that point.”

The YAIAA crowned some champions this week while other teams and individuals had to wait to collect their hardware during a wet week in York County.

The YAIAA baseball championships were originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Sovereign Bank Stadium. But the tournament was moved to today and Tuesday because of the threat of inclement weather, which did, indeed, hit the area.

The aforementioned storm suspended the YAIAA Track and Field Championships, which will be picked up at 5 p.m. tonight back at Dallastown.

Delone’s Grace Reidel competes in the girls’ pole vault during the YAIAA Track and Field Championships on Friday.
(Daily Record/Sunday News — Kate Penn)

The event wasn’t a complete washout as champions were crowned in both boys and girls action, highlighted by the Red Lion girls winning their fourth straight 3,200 relay title.

Softball couldn’t hide from the weather, either. Both YAIAA semifinal games began Thursday afternoon and didn’t finish until Friday.

In one semifinal, Taylor Rohrbaugh’s no-hitter lifted Central York into today’s championship game with a 10-0 win vs. Kennard-Dale. In the other semi, Delone Catholic won a slugfest vs. Spring Grove, 13-6.

The Panthers and Squirettes will meet at 5 p.m. today at New Oxford.

Central York’s Sherief Sutton scored the game-winning goal Thursday night as the Panthers beat West York, 13-12, for the YAIAA boys’ lacrosse title. (For the Daily Record/Sunday News — Mike Zortman)

Believe it or not, despite all of those postponements and suspensions, the YAIAA did crown lacrosse tournament champions last week.

In the boys’ game, Central York scored twice in the final 20 seconds to edge West York, 13-12, on Thursday. Ian Desenberg tied the game late and Sherief Sutton gave Central the title with his goal 13 seconds before the end of regulation.

On the girls’ side, it was more of the same as Kennard-Dale beat York Catholic, 11-7, for its third straight league tournament title.

Kennard-Dale goalie Alána Pietra, who played the same position for York Catholic last year, stood huge net to help the Rams win. It was the fifth time in two years the programs met.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-8383" alt="Kennard-Dale players celebrate after winning their third straight YAIAA girls lacrosse tournament championship on Thursday. (For the Daily Record/Sunday News — Mike Zortman)

There wasn’t a tournament for it last week, but boys’ volleyball took center stage for a few days.

First, Central York fought off Eastern York, 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20) on Tuesday to stay undefeated. But, the Panthers’ perfect season didn’t make it the weekend.

Thursday night, in front of a packed house, Central dropped a 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21) decision to Northeastern. The win earned the Bobcats the outright YAIAA regular-season title.

If you have an opinion about which player had the best week, make sure to vote for our YAIAA boys’ and girls’ athletes of the week. The poll closes at 5 p.m. today. The winners will then have a chance to be named our GameTimePA.com Athletes of the Week.
