West York to hold ‘Paws Playin’ for Paws’ on April 14

A girls’ lacrosse game on Monday, April 14 will benefit the York SPCA when Central York visits West York.

The game is dubbed “Paws Playin’ for Paws,” to fit the teams’ mascots of Bulldogs and Panthers. The endeavor is part of a senior graduation project for a group of West York students. So far, they have raised more than $1,000 and purchased special shirts for the game.

Central York, Northeastern high in state volleyball rankings

The Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association released its first set of state rankings for this boys’ season. Central York and Northeastern were among the top teams for both classifications.

Central York’s Hackos signs with Youngstown State

Central York High School senior Katherine Hackos has signed a Letter of Intent to play Girls’ Soccer for Youngstown State University. The YAIAA all-star is the daughter of Nathan Hackos, of York, and plans to study communications at Youngstown State.

Shippensburg’s Megan Lundy, Messiah’s Ricardo Plummer earn All-America honors

Two YAIAA alumni earned All-American honors at this weekend’s NCAA championships. Messiah College wrestler Ricardo Plummer, a York Suburban graduate, finished fifth at 174 pounds at the NCAA Division III championships. And Shippensburg University runner Megan Lundy, a Central York graduate, finished eighth in the 400 meters at the NCAA Division II indoor track and field championships.

District 3 boys’ basketball tournament breakdown

A last-second shot lifted Wilson past Central York during a December holiday tournament in Hempfield. That shot proved to be the difference in the District 3 Class AAAA rankings.
