Do your clothes make you look fat

In the case of most of these women, the answer is YES! YES! and one more time, YES!!!

Leave it to Oprah to set them straight. On a show, she had the women come in and get a makeover.

In some cases, like the woman in the red plaid jumper, it was desperately needed.

With these ladies in mind, I went online to look for tips for dressing slimmer.

I found this article, with 10 tips on dressing thinner, which included my favorite tip about wearing clothes your size.

It seems obvious, but even I've been guilty of taking the larger size because it's more comfy.

I also found a site whose name I really can relate to, www.youlookfab.com, which had fashion tips for many situations, and even talks about the best socks!

Here's some more good tips, from an article from YES.

I also found a few outdated tips that folks still believe to be true, such as:

Choose darker solid colors such as black, navy blue and gray. Black rules!

Yes, black is awesome, but you'll still look huge in it if you decide to wear a black dress the size of a burlap sack.

I usually avoid wearing all black, and use black as a background from another color I'm wearing.

Dress monochromatic, all in one color, top to bottom, no patterns.

This tip basically says that if you're fat, you should dress in one color, so you can look like a big fat person in one color.

(A family member of mine used to love to wear a big, purple jumpsit. She looked like Grimace, the McDonald's guy.)

Color and patterns can be a big girl, or guy's, best friend. Pick the right colors and patterns, and you'll look fab.

Here's a cute, patterned shirt from LaneBryant.com.

Do not be afraid of colors or patterns.

If you want to wear patterns, go for smaller ones that overlap.

Again, patterns are your friends. Some times the small ones don't look good either. Look for a pattern that fits your style, and that looks good on you.

Avoid pleats. Flat front pants and skirts are instant slimmers.

Many designers are coming out with skirts that have small pleats in the front and on the back that are very fashionable for a full-figured woman.

Don't automatically say no to them. Try them.

If you have a large bust, invest in a good support bra.

Support: read as "boring. . . "

What?!?!?! Fuller breasts are made for sexy bras. Don't hide your girls! Be proud of them.

Many places offer stylish, fun and even naughty bras for full-figured women, that have adequate support.

Avoid shiny fabrics such as velour and satin.

Again, are big girls not supposed to were fun, fabulous stuff because of their size?

Go for the RIGHT shiny fabrics, such as velour and satin. Take an honest friend with you shopping, and let them help you pick the fun fabrics that are right for you.

So, go forth big girl (or guy) and get your fashion on.

You're beautiful, dammit! (Check out the song.)

They look completely different. Those ladies who were on Oprah have a book at the library that I've used in the past. Great reference.
