Would you take this job?

| | Comments (0)

A woman in New York is looking for a nanny.

Her ad for the job begins with, "My kids are a pain."

Ok. . . that sounds really inviting.

She goes on to say, "I can be a tad difficult to work for. I'm loud, pushy and while I used to think we paid well, I am no longer sure."

Right. . . Wow. . .I don't know about you, but I'm sure most are looking for a boss with those qualifications (or already have one).

Well, a University of Virginia grad has taken the challenge.

I want you guys to join me in wishing this poor soul, I mean, new nanny, the best of luck.

Put down that doughnut

I like to call it that '3 p.m. starvin' feelin'.

It's that ravenous monster belly rumble you get in the afternoon, way after lunch and before dinner.

For me, that's doughnut time.

However, health officials suggest you try another tactic, to avoid gaining extra pounds.

In this story, there are some ideas on how to avoid going for cookies and chips in the afternonn.

Were's not buying it, JLH

| | Comments (0)

In December, I blogged about how Jennifer Love-Hewitt stood up to the tabloids, who took some unflattering pictures of her swimming with her boyfriend.

A size 6, JLH came out hard, telling the tabs she was proud of her body, and to basically suck it. She said they wouldn't get to her.

Healthy women everywhere rejoiced, and supported JLH in her fight against the evil tabs.

Well, JLH lied.

'100-calories' snacks a sin

| | Comments (0)

Just when you thought you were eating healthy, those people who do studies come along and ruin it.

Apparently, those cute little snack packs that boast only 100 calories are deceptive.

I just knew eating only 100 calories of Chips A'hoy cookies was a crime against nature. You can't get the real flavor of a cookie in less than 200 calories.

Oh, wait, that's not what they mean.

Big-boned cat finds a home

| | Comments (0)

Do you guys remember the 44-pound cat I wrote about?

The 10-year-old cat, named Shadow, was abandoned after his owner lost her home to foreclosure.

After he became a national story, people came out in droves to offer him a new place to rest his belly, I mean, head.

The healthy guy has found a new home.

As an aside, I blame the media (smile) for the unattractive photo of the big kitty. I mean, it really is just from a bad angle.

They might as well have cut his head off, like they do when they take shots of juicy, overweight folks from behind for obesity reports.

A sad baby story

| | Comments (0)

Have you guys seen this?

This news story is about a baby left in the car for three hours on a hot day who later died. You've got to read to the end and check out the comments from our readers on this one.

Wow.

Any thoughts?

Life just wouldn't be complete without some kind of Britney Spears update.

Since she's cleaned up her act and stopped flashing her vajayjay, she's got some business to take care of, like the almost $1 million she has to pay for the costs of her custody battle with K-Fed.

In this story, show staggering figures for the fight over the two children.

In the end, K-Fed got the kids, and Brit-Brit got the bill. Let's hope her new album does well, and helps her pay the bills.

This is painful

In this week's celebrity round-up, I found this post on Amy Winehouse.

She looks as cracked-out as ever, but continues to perform looking like this.

I guess she still has to make money, with a husband who is locked up and bills to pay, but she looks. . . well. . . bad doesn't even hit the mark on this one.

Does she realize she looks like this?

Yet another good reason to NOT drink diet soda.

Besides the fact that it tastes awful, and doesn't hold a candle to regular soda.

This slideshow features some food we often associate with being healthy that are actually not so much.

Some surprises include the diet soda, pretzels and my favorite - VitaminWater.

That is my drank!

Yes, I said drank. Whatever.

But there is a bright spot. The slideshow also has some healthy foods that get a bad rap.

I know, I'm overjoyed, too.

Gotta love eating healthy.

No, Dad, I'm not kidding

On my way to physical therapy Saturday, I called my dad in Va.

He and I usually chat on Saturday about whatever explosion-filled, gory, scary or stupid movies we've seen lately or trade family gossip.

This Saturday, I had some bad news.

One of his favorite comedians, Bernie Mac, died.

So long, Sutri-System

| | Comments (0)

Due to unforseen ecomomic factors, we will no longer will have to sever ties with the Sutri-System program.

Translation: I'm broke like everyone else, and the food is getting to be expensive.

I can either stay on the plan or stop driving to work, or anywhere else for that matter.

So, I'm choosing to give driving.

I've got to do something else to help me diet in the meantime.

So, I guess it's back to the old drawing board, as far as the weight-thing goes.

I'm still holding at 259, so it's all good.

Well, it's not, but you know what I mean.

There's this new Beyounce Feria hair-coloring ad. In it, Beyounce looks. . . lighter.

People have been in an uproar about it, accusing L'oreal of trying to make Beyounce look "white."

Our favorite catty blogger, Perez Hilton, ask the question in this post, "Was Beyounce white-washed?"

I'm guessing these critics have not seen the Beyounce Barbie doll, or some of her other, "lighter' photos.

Have you guys seen this? What do you think?

I have been remiss. . .

in my duties as a doting aunt. I have not posted cute pictures of my nieces and newphew in at least a month.

My apologies.

They're growing up so fast. I found these older shots of them on my computer. They are soooo cute.

This is the youngetst, Kaiya, with Thumper. I think she was about 1 here.

Finding humor in life

| | Comments (0)

One of my heroes, Sonia Loper, died Saturday.

After a 20-year battle with cancer, the disease won.

Sonia was sick most of the time I knew her. I watched her go through chemotherapy more than once, which usually meant she'd lose all her hair and her voice.

She poked fun at sounding raspy and her hair situation.

Always beautiful, and damn funny, Sonia would jokingly say she was "sexy bald," and giggle about the short curly hair on head, as it grew back saying, "My poor little hairs are just struggling, trying to grow."

The woman could turn a phrase, and always ran a lively beauty shop.

Her loves were doing hair, raising Breah and being married to Rick Loper, not necessarily in that order.

And when Sonia laughed, oh, she laughed as if all the joys in life were in that moment.

She was good at hunting down a good bargain, whether it was on a cute top for Breah or another gold bracelet for herself.

Sonia was generous with her love and friendship, and welcomed others into her life, home, church and beauty salon.

That's why I loved her, and why I'm so devastated about losing her.

Jolie-Pitt twins debut

| | Comments (0)

This week, People magazine has the exclusive photos of the Jolie-Pitt clan.

Folks, these people have a lot of kids.

Imagine, if you will, a household with six children under the age of 7.

Gives you the chills, doesn't it?

The beautiful couple says the other kids are adjusting well to the new twins. They denied rumors that they 'were too busy' to have babies and used fertility treatments.

Not ones to shy away from letting us all know they're getting some, the super couple said they produced the twins the old-fashioned way, and that twins run in Pitt's family.

Who knew?

I had to go out and buy the new magazine with the photos. The family is so cute.

On my last nerve

Mondays.

I now hate Mondays, just like many other working people.

I just wanted to say that.

Should we ban Crocs?

| | Comments (2)

This writer seems to think so. He lives in suburban Virginia, and sees Crocs waaaaaay too much.

Poor guy.

I wonder if he's tried the Crocs flip-flops.

They are really comfortable.

However, I do agree with him. I can't bring myself to wear the other Crocs, no matter how comfortable people say they are.

So readers, discuss. . . . Crocs or no Crocs?
