Viral video - "Give up the funk"

| | Comments (0)

This commercial is so cute. It's from the MasterCard, 'priceless' series, to the sounds of Parliment's "Give up the funk (Tear the roof off this sucker)":

Get down, buddies.

Here's the video on YouTube, done Parliment-style. The song is from the album, "Mothership Connection."

Yes, this is a ringtone on my phone.

"We went the funk, give us the funk. . . ."

Have a happy, funk-fllled Monday.

Tina Fey back on 'SNL' as Palin

| | Comments (3)

She's baaaaaaack!

Viewers on both political sides enjoyed Tina Fey's spoof of Republican Veep candidate Sarah Palin, and Tina Fey was back for an encore on Saturday's show.

In this opening sketch, Fey's Palin is being interviewed by Katie Couric for CBS News.

What do you think? Was this one as funny as the last one?

The 'SNL' crew also made fun of the first debate between Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama.

Bringing in reinforcements

Thursday was one of those days at work.

Amen, brother. I feel your pain, but my computer was not the source of my frustration.

Thursday was a day of working with difficult co-workers who get on my nerves, and those for which I know the feeling is mutual.

(In my office, my co-workers would probably tell you that I'm that difficult co-worker. I've embraced my inner bitch, so I'm OK with that assessment.)

Anywho, Thursday was stressful - to say the least - and I really needed to do something to let it go.

Enter my newest gym buddy, Jess, and more than an hour of cycling class. (We're working together to fight the fat! Check out her blog.)

Yes, you read that correctly. I biked for more than an hour Thursday.

And it felt great.

Are these women too thin for TV?

| | Comments (1)

As some of you may have heard, there's a new '90210' show on the CW.

For those old enough, it's a revamp of an older show, 'Beverly Hills, 90210.'

Anywho, the two lead female stars, Shenae Grimes and Jessica Stroup, have come under fire for being really, really, (did I say really), thin.

Sources from the show note that the two wear sizes that rang from 00 (is that a real size?) to 2.

picresized_1222400912_reallyskinny.jpg

In this US Weekly cover story, a source said, "I've never seen them eat."

Some say the young starlets are under a lot of pressure because the show was highly-anticipated, and may have lost weight because of it.

My question - if these women are this thin on camera (which supposedly adds 10 pounds), how do they look in real life?

One of Shenae's thighs could be my arm!

Celeb gossip sites also had dogged the tiny girls on 'Gossip Girl' for being too thin, but these twigs make those girls look healthy. (Notice I did not say fat.)

On the Web, other bloggers weighed in on the skinny women.

They are really tiny. Any thoughts on this one, guys?

Viral video - "Guy Love"

| | Comments (0)

This clip makes my sister's husband cringe.

It's from my favorite show, "Scrubs," which my sister Regina also loves.

We think this song about a "special kind of love" rocks.

It's "Guy Love," a duet with "Scrubs" doctors J.D. and his BFF, Turk.

Awww. . . doesn't it just warm your heart?

Was it that bad?

| | Comments (0)

The news media has not been kind to a 'Desperate Housewives' star who wore a sparkly, shimmery mess of a dress to the Emmys.

Eva Longoria Parker and her bow dress has made it on all the worst-dressed Emmy lists.

Do you guys think her dress was that bad?

picresized_1222240482_eva.jpg

Ok, she did make one best dressed list.

I found this overall round-up on the frocks and shocks from Tv's big night.

Going back to what works

| | Comments (4)

I weighed myself Monday.

It was not a high moment of the day.

274.

Yes, you read that right.

274.

This is the heaviest I've ever been. I wanted to cry and was in a panic.

However, I've got a plan.

Viral video - "How will I know"

| | Comments (0)

So, I can't get this song out of my head, and I was giggling thinking of how much I used to love this video.

This is Whitney Houston's, "How will I know."

Is it just me, or does Whitney seriously need a sandwich?

And don't you just love the random, 80s dancers? Whitney's hair and bow?

This video rocks.

I'm putting this here so this song can be stuck in your head, too.

You're welcome.

It's mocking me.

From it's plastic cover and its place hanging on the closet door, the pretty, beaded and strapless dress, is taunting me.

It is not happy with me almost having a panic attack every time I think about what my fat back an turkey arms will look like in it for my friend's October wedding.

No, that's not enough.

It's like, "Hey, big girl. I know you're stressed about how you're going to look in this dress. You should be. You're going to look a hot ghetto mess!"

Then, I hear its evil laughter.

It's mocking me.

These are the confessions of a plus-sized bridesmaid.

Selma's baby is too cute

| | Comments (0)

Selma Hayek was spotted with her cute daughter, Valentina.

The toddler, whose photos weren't sold to any of the tabloids, looks healthy, happy and just like mama.

Awww.. . . She's too cute!

And, we love Selma, for being a real woman, with a real body and real curves. She loves them, she's said in interviews.

Selma encourages women to love themselves and their bodies, and sponsors several charities for women.

Selma rocks.

People's celeb baby blog

| | Comments (1)

I was on the People.com site today looking for this year's "best and worst dressed" list.

Yes, I was trying to find it to bring it here, to the blog.

I didn't find it, but I did find something else.

Since most folks enjoy babies, and blogs, People.com put them together in their celebrity baby blog.

It has posts about your favorite celebs, and some you've never heard of, and their little bundles of joy.

Check it out and let me know what you guys think.

New gym in town

| | Comments (0)

I got an e-mail about a new gym coming to the area.

John Craig, a Brand Development person from Planet Fitness, read the blog and thought readers might be interested a new place to work out.

I know how much EVERYONE loves working out, including yours truly, so I'm passing on the information.

Planet Fitness opened a new location Monday in West Manchester Township.

The gym is in the White Street plaza, where the Weis Market and USPS are located, right next to the CitiFinancial office.

Craig said the new gym follows the chain's "judgement free zone" mentality and helps people get in shape on a budget.

The membership costs are between $10 to $19.99 a month. For more information, go to www.planetfitness.com.

Thanks for the heads up, Craig, and keep reading.

Tina Fey mocks Palin on 'SNL'

| | Comments (1)

Tina Fey, the great comedy goddess, is at it again.

I guess after all the talk about Fey looking like Republican VP choice Sarah Palin, the only thing left for Fey to do was spoof her.

Here's the video from www.nbc.com, and it's funny:

For weeks, many have said Palin and Fey look alike. Fey returned to the show that helped make her famous to do the spoof.

This week, many questioned whether Fey would return to play Palin again.

Remember little Dannilyn?

She's the daughter of Anna Nicole and the photographer, what's his name. . . Howard Stern, no. . . . . Oh yes, Larry Birkhead.

Anywho, the tot turns two this month, and Us Weekly has a piece on her and her dad.

Her father said the girl 'looks just like her mother.'

Uh huh. . . .

Let's hope he means the Guess-era Anna Nicole and not the later-in-life, drugged out version.

We can blame ear infections

| | Comments (0)

For those looking for someone else to blame for their weight gain, the people who do studies are offering another scapegoat.

Personally, I blame the media.

Anywho, a series of new studies presented this month by taste and hearing experts suggests that repeated infections may damage a vital taste-sensing nerve in kids, perking a preference for rich foods and making them prone to weight gain later.

Here's the story on it.

Do you have the fat gene?

| | Comments (0)

No, I'm not talking about the skin-tight jeans some wear that appear to be painted on their juicy parts and make them look fat.

I'm talking about an actual gene that people who do studies say makes you fat.

Ok, maybe that's simplifying it too much, actually, it's a common genetic variation that makes people more likely to gain weight.

But you can combat it.

In this writer's column, the writer talks about how obsessed we are with body image, to the point that our avartars (online illustrations we make of ourselves) are always thin.

Interesting.

She also brings up the JLH thing. You remember - Ms. Size 6 who said she didn't lose weight because of the bad press she got for looking 'fat,' but because she wanted to be leaner (Yeah, right).

The column also talks about the "Biggest Loser" shows, and her thoughts that they create a fantasy for us viewers that losing weight is easy, and that we feel good just watching those folks, but don't do it ourselves.

Hmmmm. . .

I'm all for losing weight, but why does "The Biggest Loser" have to humiliate the fat folks by putting them in spandex?

It's cruel and a crime against nature, really it is.

Her point is that all these things make us crazier about our weight. The Newsweek column makes some points.

Leave your comments and let me know your thoughts on this.

Readers, I'd like to hear from you.

Brit Brit steals the show

| | Comments (0)

She did it.

Britney Spears came back, not to perform, but to being closer to her old, pop tart self, with her appearance last night at the VMA awards.

britneyspears3.jpg

Her dress was cute and her weave was tight, and her bare beaver was no where in sight!

(And my rhymes are dy-no-mite!)

Seriously, though, she rocked it.

Gimme More, part II

| | Comments (0)

Today, sources donfirmed that Britney Spears will open up the MTV Video Music Awards with another live performance.

This should be. . . interesting.

To tide you over until the 9 p.m. show, here's some pictures of her in the last 12 months, including some pretty good meltdown shots.

Enjoy, and let me know how the VMAs go!

I know we've all been missing the Britney Spears news.

You have to admit - she did keep it interesting for much of 2007 and early 2008.

So, many are talking about Brit Brit coming back in a really big way.

She's seen here practicing for a new video, and it looks much better than her botched VMA award performance last year.

Here's a spoof of her performance that is funny, but evil. If you've got a few minutes to waste at work, check it out.

This spoof is just not right.

Apparently, the spoofs were just as popular as the originial VMA performance, and got more than a million hits on YouTube.

Brit-Brit will be at the VMAs again this year, but it's not clear if she's performing or just presenting an award.

I guess we will see this weekend. The show is at 9 p.m. Sunday.

Blog slump

| | Comments (0)

Dear readers,

You may have noticed, but I'm in a bit of a blog slump.

Call it the 'end of summer' blues or the 'I can't lose weight' and 'can't think of anything funny to write' blues, but I'm in a funk.

It was confirmed when I saw my page hits went down last month.

:( :( :( :(

(I know. Those are very sad faces.)

I apologize to my loyal readers who stop by all the time and leave great comments. For my new readers, I'll do better.

So, I'm challenging myself. I'm going to start updating the blog several times a week again, so please check the page often.

Also, tell your friends. I love new readers, and new folks with any ideas on how to lose weight and keep it off (or on the best stores to shop for plus-sized clothing.)

Bookmark the blog page, www.yorkblog.com/weigh and visit me here often this month.

Ok, this is one of those posts that could guarantee my place on the bus to . . . well, you know.

So, if you don't want to take the trip with me, stop reading here.

Before I go any farther, I need to say this - I was raised right. My parents did the best they could with what they had.

It really isn't their fault.

That said, is it just me or does this baby look evil?

Halle Berry's daughter, Minion-in-training #1, I mean, Nahlia, made her debut. Halle and her hot model boyfriend have managed to keep the toddler in the Underworld, oops, underwraps, for the first five months of her life.

That's almost unheard of in Hollywood, where cute baby photos go for millions of dollars.

Maybe Nahlia is just having a bad day and her plans to turn earth to a living hell were thwarted. Or, perhaps her evil only comes through in photos.

Either way, the photos on the pop site are much better. MSN picked a weird photo.

This one kind of gives me the chills (and I keep hearing a maniacal laugh and thunder claps whenever I open it. . .strange).

Let's do this

| | Comments (0)

Ok, I'm going to change my life.

No, I'm not going to stop buying shoes or eating chocolate. That's just unreasonable.

I am, however, going to participate in a local seminar about weight loss, and see if it can help change my life.

And I'm going to blog about it, so you can come along on the journey.
