My best friend's wedding, Part 2

| | Comments (1)

I've got an an attitude to cover my fear of looking fat in my dress when I get to the suite where everyone is getting ready.

I know, I'm obsessing. I can't help it.

While we're in the mirror, another bridesmaid, Shirley, tells me how she's not feeling good about showing her back fat when we stand up at the front of the church for the wedding ceremony.

What? Shirley can't be any more than like a size 12.

But she's really nervous about how she will look in her dress, too.

She tugs at the strapless cocktail dress, adjusts her breasts in it, then frowns before moving out of her space in the mirror.

I go out to get something out of my bad and I hear Nicole grumbling about her body in the dress.

Seriously? She's a size smaller than Shirley!

Then, it dawned on me.

We were ALL stressed out about fitting into this dress and how it would look during the ceremony.

I wasn't alone in my fear. No matter what the size, everyone was worried about looking like the "fat" bridesmaid.

Wow.

As the largest of the bridesmaids, I really thought I was the only one. As small as the other women are, I thought, they can't be as anxious about wearing this dress as I am.

They were. Knowing that helped me relax a little.

We all joked about the juicy parts we worried would be saying hello to the crowded church and laughed about it.

I relaxed some more, which allowed me to open myself up to the joy of my friend marrying the man with whom she plans to spend the rest of her life.

Wow.
