What is she wearing?

While searching for Grammy fashion flubs to criticize this morning, I found this AP photo of nine-months pregnant rapper M.I. A.

The Associated Press caption: "M.I.A. poses for a photograph backstage at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, in Los Angeles."

Wow.

That's about all I can say. I sent the photo around to my co-workers, who had the following caption suggestions:

Education reporter Nikki: "Rapper M.I.A. is nominated for the best performance by a nine-month preggers rapper wearing a Halloween costume."

"British singer M.I.A. is large and in charge at the 51st Grammy Awards," said our Entertainment reporter, Erin.

She added, "Girlfriend is nine months pregnant and can hold her own with the likes of T.I., Lil Wayne, Kanye and Jay-Z. Loves it!"

Assistant features editor, Sue, gave us a good one, "Pop sensation M.I.A. shows off her humble roots by taking advantage of the chiffon and polka-dot cotton sale in the fabric department of the local Wal-Mart."

And from our Web/Weekly goddess, Joan: Rap sensation M.I.A. shows her fashion sense is M.I.A.

Sharing my sentiments, Day Metro Editor Amy said about the photo, "I got nothing. I'm still speechless."

I guess this is more proof that I'm getting old, because I didn't know who the heck this woman is, or why she would be at the Grammys.

However, that's not saying much. I didn't know a lot of the acts at the Grammys, not just the fashion-challenged ones.
