I'm Michele Canty, and this is my blog.

It started as a place to talk about my weight-loss misadventures, but has evolved into a multi-topic playground. Several times a week, I'll update the blog with my weight-loss progress, or lack of it, and "weigh in," on whatever else comes to mind, including fashion dos and donts, celebrity gossip and life in general.

Will I lose the 50+ pounds I need to lose? Will people stop wearing pajama pants in public? Will celebrities ever stop giving bloggers stuff to write about?

I guess we'll find out, won't we?

Michele Canty is the York Daily Record/Sunday News' Day Web reporter. This blog is an interactive forum that welcomes comments and suggestions. Please comment on blog posts or message Michele Canty directly at mcanty@ydr.com.

Thanksgiving is a time to pig out, right?

No! says health experts. We should not use the holiday as an excuse to break our diets.

Does this mean we will stand on the sidelines, looking longingly at the food table and secretly coveting the plates of others?

No.

We can (and will) eat, but we should not overeat, health experts tell us.

NewsReleaseWire.com featured an article with the following holiday eating tips:

1. Call a friend a few days before the party to find out what they are serving.

2. Plan what you will eat before going to the party.

3. Under no circumstances go back for more food.

4. Talk more, eat less - Pick two new people at the party you would like to get to know more about. Introduce yourself!

5. Have fun. Enjoy your holiday favorites, but in moderation.

Whatever you do, have a good holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Our favorite catty blogger, Perez Hilton, had this update on Britney Spears.

Apparently, the Pop tart is on Daddy lockdown, and is supervised any time she leaves the house.

With her past history, that sounds about right.

In the Rolling Stones interview, she talks about her children, and them learning new, colorful words. She believes it comes from hanging with their father, the man, the myth, the baby daddy legend, K-Fed.

I know, it's shocking, just shocking.

She, however, looks good.

No bald head, no bare beaver, and no pap photographer leech holding on to her heels. Her dad is calling the shots, and keeping her in line.

Very good, Brit Brit. Keep up the good work.

I have not weighed myself since late October, mainly because I fear what the scale will read.

You see, the scale is your friend when you're losing weight.

You step on with the confidence of knowing the reading will be less than it was the last time you took this particular adventure.

You're excited about every weigh in, because you can feel your progress, in the clothes that are not as snug and see it in the cheeks that are no longer as chubby.

This is not the case with me. The scale is not my friend.

I hate the scale. It terrifies me.

When I think of weighing myself, I get lightheaded. I dread it like I dread going to the dentist, standing in line anywhere and long work meetings.

The thought of weighing myself makes me break out into a cold sweat.

I almost fainted the last time I did it, when I saw the scale tip past 279 - the heaviest I've ever been.

Now, I'm fearful of it.

One town, labeled as the fattest in America said to critics - "So what?"

"It doesn't come up," said Huntington, W.Va. mayor David Felinton, who is obese at 5 feet 9 and 233 pounds, as he walked toward City Hall one recent morning. "We've got a lot of economic challenges here in Huntington. That's usually the focus."

This story talks about a town with lots of fat folks - but other problems that are on the front burner.

With poverty at its highest level and economic woes to numerous to count, the town doesn't want to be the unhealthiest in the U.S. but its residents say it has bigger fires to put out.

The story has the usual obesity experts blasting fat people, and their town, as the 10th level of Hell, and some historic explanations of why the town is the way it is.

The culprits - diabolical fried foods, seducing sugary snacks and artery-clogging hot dogs with all the fixings.

Huntington's residents don't seem to be aware of its distinction, which experts say is part of the problem. However, with other factors, like its crippled economy, historic and cultural factors, what can this fat town do?

Some seem to think obesity is about a bunch of people who no self control that just overeat. I know I'm stating the obvious, but it's a lot more complicated than that.

What will we do about obesity nationwide? How can this town be helped?

My friend, Ann, called me this weekend. We talked about life and other things when she asked, "Who is this Kimora, and why does she have her own show?"

The who she is is the easy part -- Kimora Lee Simmons is Baby Phat's CEO and the pampered princess of an ex-wife to hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons. The couple has two daughters together.

I've always been perplexed by the second half of the question, because I don't understand why she has her own show, either. Seems like most of her fans, according to this online conversation, aren't quite sure, either.

Kimora's reality series, "Life in the Fab Lane," airs on E! and the Style Network. In its first season, the show is described as, "An inside look at the glamorous life of Baby Phat CEO and devoted mom Kimora Lee Simmons."

Hmmm. . . I wonder if the people who wrote this have ever seen the show.

A more appropriate description would have something to do with its star whining and how she tortures her assistants with demands.

I've only seen a few episodes, which was more than enough, but I have to imagine her assistants and handlers sing slave spirituals and hope for freedom from their unforgiving master someday.

Her requests run the range of bratty to ridiculous, and she makes Mariah Carey's divatastic ways seem normal in comparison.

I'm waiting for the episode where she makes them kiss her ring to only refer to her as "the queen" or "our ultimate most fabulous woman ruler."

I bet her folks keep Rolaids in business, because they are always in a panic about Kimora's wants, I mean, needs, and seem to worry about losing their lives if they displease her.

And is it just me, or does her face looked really pinched or over-botoxed?

Don't get me wrong - I'm not being a hater. I commend The Ultimate Most Fabulous Woman Ruler on her success as a businesswoman. I'm just curious as to why she has her own show.

I guess it fall in the same category as to why Brooke Hogan, Denise Richards, Pamela Anderson and others have their own reality shows.

We're in a recession and super-desperate for television shows. We'll take just about anything, which may be the only explanation.

Ok, I'm done. Let the hate mail from Kimora lovers begin.

To start your weekend off right, I found more foods that are just awful for you.

This story features drinks that are evil.

The bad news is these drinks are ones we usually drink and don't think twice about diet-wise. The good news, the article tells me, is that they are the easiest calories to cut from your diet.

Much to my dismay, my favorite, VitaminWater, is on the list. Sunkist, another top pick for me, is also on the list.

As I looked further up the list, another favorite, Nesquik, and other, Starbucks hot chocolate, were also there.

I'm starting to see a pattern. (smile)

So, which one of your favorites are on this list?

However, I've discovered that eating healthy does not come cheap.

I spent more money on fresh veggies, fruits and other items than I spent before on unhealthy choices.

I have, however, found some help.

This story, talks about how to make good food choices, but on a budget.

The advice comes from the nutritionist on the painful show, "The Biggest Loser." (I hate seeing those poor fat people in tiny clothes. It's just wrong).

I went over to my co-worker, Cathy, today, with a question.

"Remember when you were fat?" I asked. "Did you ever wake up and discover a new roll that just popped up?"

A little background: Cathy and I have worked together for years, and both struggled to lose weight. She's a big winner in that department, and lost lots with a combination of diet and working out (She looks fabulous, too! I'm hoping to get her to share her weight-loss story with you guys as a guest blogger, but we'll chat about that another time).

Anywho, when we were both big girls, we laughed and joked - a lot - so, she wasn't offended when I asked her my questions (And for those of you who know Cathy, it takes A LOT to offend her!)

After she laughed until her face turned red, she responded.

"Oh yes. . . that still happens sometimes."

Tell me about it.

This morning, I woke up at the UnGodly time of 4:45 p.m. to go to the gym.

At the gym, I noticed a new wringle in my reflection.

A new, full-sized roll of jelly has taken up residence in my already full midsection.

I'm guessing it did not get the memo that we're kicking out other tenants, and that there is no vacancy for more fat.

It bounced heartily as I cycled, and I wondered where it had been hiding, and where it had come from.

Don't get me wrong - my belly wasn't flat yesterday. . . I just don't remember it being quite this . . . big and jiggly.

I wondered - had the fat fairy been by while I was sleeping?

Damn her!!!!

We were together three to four days a week, and it felt so good.

All my stress from work would just melt away with every rotation of the stationary bike's wheels.

I would be high on the sense of accomplishment you get from working out.

I'm not sure where we went wrong, but me and the gym are having problems.

Or maybe it's just me -- again.

It appears that I'm the one who can't decide if they want to be in this relationship.

I'll be OK for a week or two, then I have doubts.

Well, not doubts, but excuses for not going. Whether it's work, sleep, an appointment, an errand or something else, I can always find some reason to neglect the relationship.

If I enjoy it so much, why do I keep giving up on it?

Anybody? Newman? Someone? Does anyone know why this happens? I can't be the only one.
