Do you really want to know?

My homey, Amanda, sent this story to me.

Basically, New York law requires restaurants to put the calorie content on menus and other food displays.

In the story, many said they had sticker shock from looking at how many calories their favorite foods, even ones that are supposed to be healthy, had.

For example, one woman found out the "healthy" (and I am using air quotes) chicken, cheese and walnut salad she loves from T.G.I. Fridays actually has more than 1,300 calories in it.

That Starbucks muffin you love - more than 600 calories.

Don't even get me started on Wendy's and other fast food.

Some folks didn't appreciate getting the sticker shock. What do you think?

Would you like to know how many calories are in the foods you're eating while your out?

Let me hear it, people, give me a shout out in the comments.

Diet food running low

I'm getting down to the last part of my SutriSystem shipment.

Let's just say I don't have many savory choices left at this point.

It's tempting to not eat the stuff, because I've had all my favorites already.

But like W, I'm staying the course.

I just can't wait until I get another shipment in a few days.

C'mon FedEx, help a sister out!

I almost gave up

I'm sick.

No, not mentally, though some would argue that point, but physically.

I have strep throat, and a double ear infection.

Yeah!

I feel like dirt, or worse, if you can imagine.

When I'm sick, I like comfort food such as creamy soups, hearty breads and marshmellow-filled hot chocolate.

You know, things to warm my tummy and help me feel better.

But I'm on a diet.

And though the SutriSystem food has been tasty, its no where near comfort food.

Something strange is going on

So, I'm doing this new diet, right, and eating a ridiculously low amount of calories each day.

Last week, I was about ready to strangle someone for a cheeseburger.

(Mmmmm. . . tasty, cheesy, Hardee's thick burger. . .yummy.)

Ok, enough day dreaming.

Anywho, something weird has happened.

I think my body has adjusted to our new calorie level

Welcome back

It's Monday morning, and you're back from you Easter holiday.

Here's a story from Newsweek to ruin the holiday and its goodies for you, and throw you into enough guilt to get you to the gym.

I was shocked (just shocked!) to see that eating a whole chocolate bunny is not a good thing.

It has more than 1,000 calories in one bunny - roughly half the amount of calories adults need ALL DAY.

I'm more saddened that my Easter favorites, the Reeses' eggs, made the list. I mean, they only have 180 calories for one egg.

Couldn't they leave them alone?

You'll be really surprised at how much even a HOLLOW chocolate egg has calorie-wise.

Why is it that all the food that tastes good is so bad?

It just breaks my heart, so I had to share.

Watch those portions

It seems that one of the reasons Americans are overweight has to do with the portions we eat.

I think they could be on to something.

Recently, I went to a local steakhouse, and ordered a 12-ounce steak, with two sides and a salad.

I was able to have the steak four times as a meal, in 4-ounce portions, and split the sides and salad for at least two of the meals.

Ok, you got me. I did get dessert, too.

That could be what is messing up my diet. . .

When I go out, I always cut my meal in half, or even in thirds, so that I don't overeat.

This MSN article talks about portion control, and why it's so difficult for everyone to eat less.

Do you have any suggestions on how to eat less when faced with big, big portions?

Should they be forced to pay?

San Fransico's "hippy dippy" mayor is proposing a tax on sugary drinks such as soda.

He said the taxes will help offset the costs of obesity-related health care, which cost the city millions each year.

The mayor said he expects to get "resistance" from the soft drink makers.

You think?

Personally, I'm a believer in taking responsibility for your actions.

I'm not fat because of Pepsi, Hershey's or those wonderful folks at the Outback Steakhouse.

Sometimes, I eat too much and don't work out enough.

In response, my body has held on to some extra pounds.

Ok, to a lot of extra pounds.

However, I don't think the city should be able to tax the soda folks for my bad choices.

I'm interested to hear what you guys think about this. Do you think this tax is a good idea?

How much should it be? What drink makers should have to pay it?

Holla back, ya'll.

The evils of holiday foods

Is anyone as stressed out as I am about the holidays?

I still have presents to buy.

I have to make my holiday travel arrangements.

Should I bake something and take it home with me?

What about my cats?

Who is going to clean the condemned spot, otherwise known as my apartment?

Should I really go to another holiday party?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

It looks like my holiday stress could help to blow my diet.

Now, it's not like I haven't done enough damage to it myself, but the holidays do not help.

This AOL slide show details ways that we sabotage our healthy diets during the holiday.

Don't let this happen to you.

Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to stay true to your diet over the holidays?

Top 20 "Worst" Restaurant Dishes

I found an article that lists the WORST restaurant dishes in America.

The good news is, I recognize many of these foods.

The bad news is, I had all of these foods to eat today.

Anywho, The Men's Health Magazine story breaks the foods down into different categories, and even provides a tasty-looking descriptions of the dishes over the horrible calorie, sodium and fat facts listed below them.

Yes, it is the WORST kind of tease. To tell you about delicious-looking food, then tell you not to eat it.

Very cruel.

Topping the list is one of my favorites - Outback Steakhouse Aussie Cheese Fries with Ranch Dressing.

I don't believe there is a more perfect food.

It has cheese, ranch dressing, bacon and french fries.

Who could ask for anything more?

Well, Men's Health rained on that parade. Even splitting the meal starter with other folks doesn't save you from all the fat, calories and sodium.

Damn, damn, and double damn.

So, does this mean I shouldn't order them next time I'm at Outback? Just wondering. . .

Audience participation time:

Do you think these foods should be on the list?

Any additions?

Any worst foods that you just eat anyway?

(Yes, I have a whole list.)

Blog Rerun

For the second time in her decade-long journalism career, your favorite fat (I said call me pleasantly plump) blogger is on vacation.

Because she's not here, please enjoy this previously posted post on how to survive the holidays without overeating.

For those who thought this post would be about Rerun, from "What's Happening," and the ever popular, "What's Happening, Now?," here's a video of him doing his thing on the doctor comedy show, "Scrubs."

For those of you who have never heard of Rerun, or "What's Happening?," shame on you.

That concludes this "Blog Rerun."Your regularly scheduled blog posts and updates two to three times a week will return next week.

Until then, try not to eat until you fall into a food coma.

Happy Thanksgiving
