Bob Trazkovich stood in the middle of the YNC circulation department’s depot and proudly reeled off some numbers:
- 75 home delivery carriers pick up there in the morning.
– 24,000 papers are dispatched from there on Sunday.
– The YNC has operated under a new depot system since April, consolidating four depots into one.
Traz was addressing the operations committee from the YNC and York Daily Record/Sunday News. The depot is a long, rectangular warehouse, made even longer with a recent addition. There, newspapers arrive from the press and are handed off to motor route drivers and other distributors.
Who knew there was so much happening in the middle of the night to get the newspaper delivered?
After the group returned to its Loucks Road office, York Daily Record/Sunday News publisher Sara Glines wrote a note of thanks to Traz:
“We all learned something about our operation today thanks to your presentation at the depot. I appreciated seeing first hand the challenges you’ve faced in consolidating into fewer depots. You and your team organize chaos every day. Thanks for showing us all how it is done.”
Traz, left, YNC’s regional director of circulation operations, explains that the depot, at its peak, is a busy place. ‘Come Saturday and you’ll see a full house,” he said. Jared Bean looks on.
