Readership of hyperlocal or community news, by whatever name, grows at York Daily Record

Someone with great foresight at the York Daily Record decided in the 1980s that what is called hyperlocal news – community news about neighborhood happenings and items about personal achievements – should remain in the newspaper.

We’ve maintained – and even grown – those Lions Club, scholarship winners and school honor rolls in the York Daily Record/York Sunday News. With the introduction of our website, ydr.com, in 1996, we’ve progressively added such content – formerly also called “chicken dinner news” – in digital form.

Anna’s Amazing Race a powerful reminder of what the York community can do

The No Sweat, York, folks guided more than a dozen teams through a short obstacle course that included racing across the lawn on newspapers, jumping through hula hoops, crab-walking while balancing an orange and blowing up more than a dozen balloons.

DFM T-shirt honors DFMie winners. 4 videos, too.

The York Daily Record’s Jason Plotkin ordered this T-shirt to recognize fellow DFMie winners in recent Digital First Media award competition in St. Paul, Minn. Plotkin won a big award himself, Mid-Sized Daily Journalist of the Year.
