York County Dems announce plans for replacing Eugene DePasquale

The York County Democratic Party announced plans for how they’ll select a nominee to replace state Rep. Eugene DePasquale, D-West Manchester Township.

Interested candidates who have submitted a letter to the county party will be invited to a public forum, which will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at Crispus Attucks Center, 605 S. Duke St., York, according to a news release.

DePasquale won re-election to the state House this election, and he also won the state auditor general race. So he will be vacating his state House seat, and voters will pick his replacement in a special election.

DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF YORK COUNTY ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR NOMINATING CANDIDATE FOR 95th STATE HOUSE SEAT

YORK, PA – The Democratic Party of York County released plans today regarding the selection of a candidate to fill the seat soon to be vacated by Pennsylvania Auditor General-elect, current PA House Representative for the 95th District Eugene DePasquale.

The Democratic Party of York County will first accept letters of intent from individuals interested in running for the 95th State House seat during a special election this spring, the date yet to be determined. All letters of interest, including a resume, should be submitted to Democratic Party of York County Headquarters no later than the close of business (5:00pm) on Friday, December 21. All interested candidates who have submitted a letter to the county party will receive an invitation to a public forum to be held on January 8 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Crispus Attucks Center, 605 South Duke Street, York. The general public is invited to attend this event and may submit questions to the Democratic Party of York County for use during the forum. Questions will be accepted prior to and during the forum. Questions can be submitted either via mail, email at communications@yorkdems.org or online at www.yorkdems.org/95thforum.

Following the forum and Representative DePasquale’s resignation from the State House a Nomination Recommendation Committee will convene to vote on a candidate who will be recommended to the Pennsylvania Democratic Party’s Executive Committee.  The Recommendation Committee meeting will also be open to the public.  The date, time and location of that meeting will be determined after the PA Department of State formally announces the House seat vacancy. The committee will be comprised of the Democratic State Committee members from York County, Democratic Precinct Committeepersons from the 95th District and all Democratic Party of York County Executive members who live within the 95th District.

The Nomination Recommendation Committee will forward their selection to the Pennsylvania Democratic Party’s Executive Committee for a final vote

“Our goal is to conduct the most transparent, inclusive and democratic process possible as a service to the voters in the 95th Legislative District,” commented Democratic Party of York County Chair Bob Kefauver.

“This approach is designed to provide the public with an opportunity to meet and ask questions of the potential candidates and then to provide feedback to the Nomination Recommendation Committee members to help guide their decision.”
